That is pretty cool. I would guess some type of fossilized coral as well. Really neat that you found it in your backyard!

Just a little 1/8 acre lot but springs all over. You never know what you might find with spring around, and all rocks look round a tumbled. Nature a good tumbler.

It looks like a fossilized mushroom cap, or petrified mushroom. Would we call that Pet Mush? =)
I'm not a paleontologist, but I play one on TV. And, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night. =)

Really nice fossil. Congratulations.
But I am going to go against the grain here and say it is not a coral. To me it looks way more like a sea pen of some sort. So I recommend researching ediacaran and vendian fossils. And possibly Otherwise my next guess would be a kimberella fossil.
