It's old and I think it's cool but also it practical. My neighbor gave it to me. Pics below. 1910 very old. eBay has one that's a .1917 pat. Pending Put the black tip on the center of a turning shaft and press in toward the shaft. It counts the turns. You just have to keep the time. 10 seconds-20 secs. Or a minute . And you figure the the RPM. Primitive but it works. And it's cool.

I have one of those. Got mine in the late 80's. Picked it up at a yard sale for $5.00. Mine looks different. Made by Starrett. They're a handy little tool to have around.

How do you reset it to zero?

You don't. You just have to keep track of the start a stop numbers.

Not very clear on the response. You can't reset it. You just have to keep track of the start and stop points.

I've got three of the Starrett ones, my dads [still in box], wifes dads, and one given to me by a millwright at work. Said millwright bought it at a garage sale and two of them spent a whole shift trying to figure out what it was; me, being the "old guy" on the crew was approached for an I.D. The guy couldn't see any use for it so he gave it to me. Used it several times in the mill over the years. I like yours a lot spiceman, would grab it if I ever saw one available. Enjoy old tools, work good and don't need batteries.

Thought you might like to see the Starrett tach. On these the counter can be reset to zero.

The newre digital tachs are quicker, (Don't have to do any math), but for as little as I have to take speed readings, this old thing works great. The only drawback is that since I'm retired I don't own a watch. I have to borrow the wifes oven timer.

Totally understand. About retirement, I fished with a guy that is retired and I said, so how is the retired life. He said, well... I miss the weekend, everyday is a weekend and no there is no weekend to look forward to. Oh well Thank you and have a good day. Dale

I'm retired too, and find every day to be a work day, well maybe not working as hard, but weekends no longer exist except that the funnies in the Sunday paper are in color.

I manage to loose the honey do list, & I only get the Sunday paper. My wife goes thru it for the coupons, and I read the comics. The rest is for wrapping garbage in.

Funnies. I use to fish bass tournaments and he was my partner. He always said the doing the week he caught good fish but the closer it got to the weekend the catch rate got smaller. Dale
