I was at a Highland Festival in Abingdon Va last week and a vendee was selling these there. He had only pendants and they were silver or gold, mostly inexpensive raw edge pieces of dyed Brazillian Agate. They were selling like hotcakes!!! How are the putting that around the stone, is it soldered or what?

I'm guessing it's something like this, but I'm not sure because you would have to lay the rock in the mold and pure the melted brass over and I'm not sure that would work with all stones. So I'm also still trying to figure out. www.cchobby.dk/tin-smykker-i

That's interesting but maybe not what I saw. Wonder about the silver clay stuff?

This must be the gold plating, but still have to figure out how they make the brass. There are lot's of videos on how to melt brass but having difficulty seeing how that would work with the stone.

I agree with Don: electroformed then gold plated. You basically start with a substrate or mandrel, often plain jewelry modeling wax, to build the basic bezel around the stone along with the shank. Then metal, in this case nickel but it can be copper etc., is heavily plated onto the wax. Usually the wax is then eliminated and the nickel form is plated with gold, silver or rhodium. You don't need to remove the stone from the wax form because plating solutions don't interact with most stones like turquoise. See a full Wiki explanation here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroforming

Personally, I'd rather not mess around with the chemicals that are usually involved in plating...cyanide for instance.
