After a much-too-long period of forced inactivity I finally was able to knock out a few cabs today. My Genie still has water supply problems so I used my ancient Lortone slant cabber. It's creaky, noisy and needs new bearings but it still was just great to be able to get back to the wheels again. First off, a Linda Marie plume: This little Sugilite pear was cut from a sliver of material that cleaved off a larger piece - waste not, want not. It'll make a great little pendant stone. This high-domed Charoite pear was cut from a scrap of left-over material I bought from a Russian guy some time back. It didn't look too promising and I was about to toss it into the tumbling box but I decided to cut it anyhow and I like the unusual pattern. I'm not sure yet what to think of this material. It's definitely silica chrysocolla but has some unusual properties. This was a test piece -- I have more rough with much better potential (no black spots and other blemishes.) I don't know where it's from. Last I heard the guy I bought it from was living on a houseboat in Thailand so I can't ask him. Maybe someone here knows. There are many more cabs in the pipeline, waiting for the Genie to get back into action.

Nice set of cabs. I've got a piece of Linda Marie lined up for the next time I get to the wheels.
I have to say that charoite is something special. I usually prefer the darker variety, but agree that the unusual pattern really stands out.

Great cabs and good to see you cabbing again. That chrysocolla could be called confetti.

Those are all so cool! The Linda Marie really looks like it has live plants growing in it.

Very pretty and diverse lot of cabs you got there. Hope your genie gets better so you can knock them out again.

Thanks All for looking and your comments. NDK, I too prefer the darker type of Charoite and have some rough I'll be working on soon. Rockjunquie, I think the name Confetti Chrysocolla is great and it fits my material but... I did some research and the name seems to be already taken by a much softer Arizona stone. Still, there's nothing to prevent me saying my stuff is "confetti-like," is there? dottyt & ChicagoDave, the Linda Marie material is one of my current favorites. I really offers some interesting and attractive patterns and contrasts. Barclay, I'm overjoyed to report that the Genie is up and running again and barring unforeseen problems I'll be able to get to some stones I've been really wanting to cut. I knocked out several yesterday and will be posting more images as soon as I have time to shoot them. Again, thanks for looking. I really appreciate your comments.
