Howdy. Yesterday we went up to the Wrightwood area for some quality rock hounding. We only found one large piece of actinolite, but we found some other goodies as well. I could use some ID help on the slabs. Dust devil The big one (actinolite) Lemon crystals in marble Tiny peridot crystals in marble? Soft stone Red line marble Apatite & peridot in marble?

Way cool! That red line is nice. Is this the same Wrightwood that has that great rhodonite? I had a little and the color was awesome- really fractured, though.

Dang
Paul invited me but I couldn't make it.
Redline marble? Hmm...
If that is blue cut area, it's not really wrightwood. It's cajon pass. Wrightwood is about 15+ miles west and up a 1000' or more
Paul, did you also go to the actinolite spot west if wrightwood on the bend in the highway?
Did you also walk the riverbed that parallels the hwy in the town of wrightwood?

The actinolite we got up there reminded me of serpentine. It was more layered than crystalline like the Cajon Pass stuff. I am sure there are more good spots in that area, but being from San Diego it is way outside of my stomping grounds. That's why I go out with folks more familiar with the area. If you are available sometime you can show me the places that you are talking about. With luck we each have a different set and can share.

My friend from the Victorville club who met us mentioned rhodenite. He said that the mine got bought my a company and BLM shut them down. He was hoping to ask around to see if someone knew the location for a future trip. Randsberg I hear also had rhodenite, but reportedly it was played out. Maybe someone here has more up to date knowledge of these sites. I would love to go to them.

My side of the road west of wrightwood is crystalline like you describe and the wash is too. I once grabbed a 100# hunk on the side of the road in a neighborhood of wrightwood. I have a 40# hunk now from the was I described. I am told wrightwood rhodenite was lost to construction. But he is old and memory is old too. Gorgeous almost orange color. I'd love to see the serpentine like stuff. My GF and I are free on Sundays if planned in advance.

Sundays are harder to do because of Church. I was disappointed that only 2 folks from my club showed up for the trip when about 10 said they were interested in going.
