That trip is proving to be a bridge too far. Maybe next time...

Undecided. Want to go, don't want to go. Don't want to meet certain new people. Hope that's all right with you. I'm sure y'all will figure it out.

To hell with those people. Just ignore them. If you two WANT to go, and CAN go, and it is in the budget, go for it. You're only young once. 20 years from now when you two begin to get old, you will yearn for the times like this.
On the other hand, if you can not afford to go, that is an entirely different animal.

Currently trying to work a week or two in San Diego area, and the possibility exists that I can trick my spouse into a diversion to Quartzite. I'll stand out: not middle aged, no leather jacket, but yes a ball cap covering a thin spot on the back of my head. I'm hoping to look at some of the old localities visited in the 70's through the eyes of someone chasing rocks instead of reptiles. Tom

I tend to agree with Mark here. If you want to come come, don't let anyone turn you off. If it's a camping with people thing then boondock in the desert and don't tell anyone where you're at. We would enjoy seeing you guys again. It's too few and far between the times we get to see you so please try to come if you feel like it. Eva and I are so much alike socially - we consider ourselves functional loners. We enjoy our alone time away from people - nothing against people, we like seeing our friends and making new ones, it's just not in our comfort zone to socialize. This year we are going to camp there with at least one other set of camper friends and it will be fun ... if it's not then we'll pop their tires in the middle of the night and sneak out quietly so they can't follow us.

I'd like to meet you as well. Ah, maybe you have an ulterior motive?? Home grown avocados, or chili relleno casserole that I would bring to share at the BBQ? Just kidding.
I know we will not be going to Tucson this year, or probably any other. Prices there are out of my budget, and would spend too much on gas to get there. Besides, I don't much care much for crowds.
At this point in time, I can give you a definite... maybe. It is not ruled out just yet.

You're only young once. 20 years from now when you two begin to get old, you will yearn for the times like this. Wish it were that simple, Mark. And for the record, I was beginning to get old 20 years ago, lol, back when "cut-offs" (definitely NOT jorts!) and horny were still in my vocabulary. Ha. I think I am already done with any kind of yearning... There's that, too. Always have some large bills due at the end and beginning of the year (property taxes, homeowner's insurance, car insurance, DMV registration, etc.), and only three weeks of pay in December. It sucks. Have just put a bunch of money (over $500, labor is mine) into the trailer (new brakes, drums, wheel bearings, etc., and new stabilizing jack and tail lights to replace the ones ripped off going prospecting a few weeks ago). The last two items not installed yet, but the money has been spent. Someone has been bitten by the gold bug, and is more interested in prospecting than rock collecting. At least up in the Mojave, I can do both - lots of cool rocks up there to hound. Potholes has some bitchen rocks, no gold. Had planned on going back to Mojave the day after Christmas, stay for a week, but that is quite a drive, and it is freaking cold up there right now! Looks like we will be going to the Araz claim for the week, that is, if we can get enough people to go and fix the two dips in the road on the way in, the ones that tried to tear the bottom out of our trailer last trip in (couple weekends ago).
Anita asked me at both the Rock Show at the Rodeo grounds and at the club's Christmas party last Friday if we were going to go in 2017. She is really wanting to go bad, was bummed that we didn't go last year. Irving's back is totally messed up, he'll either be hurting, or may have surgery on his back later this month. Either way, I don't see how he can enjoy it. Not to mention, he almost ripped his left arm off a couple months ago, when he fell while cutting a dead tree on his property. Not really counting on them to make it in January.
I guess if we do go, we can always find another place to go and camp at, you and us, pick and choose. Will just have to see....... (I am totally serious about not meeting this person. Period.) Didn't make it last year because mrrockpicker was burned out on Q, and didn't want to spend his one week of paid vacation for the year out there, was burned out on it. Instead, he got to go prospecting for a week, although what we did was not what had been planned. Just rolling with the punches, whatever happens, happens. IF we go, it will be a quick haul ass out of here Thursday night, get there late, midnight-ish, a rock hounding trip on Friday, a little shopping at Desert Gardens (need a new dichroic glass barrette to replace my old one that broke) on Saturday, BBQ Saturday night, leave for home Sunday. I suppose a lot depends on the weather, too.

I don't know if I'll make it this year. Your chile relleno casserole is a pretty good motivation to get me thinking about going. Let's see who I can talk into driving down there. Lynn
