So I took a nice trip to Peru last February and so I don't forget anything I want to promptly make this post <shesh> Lots of great stuff in Peru : the climate, people, food (best ceviche in the World!!), nature and the rocks and minerals. Here are some of the minerals. Of course Peru may be most famous for their chrysocolla. I ended up buying over 100 lbs of top grade stuff from a friend that lives in Peru and has access to the copper mine spoils. Ha, the word "spoils" is hardly appropriate in my opinion. Here is just a tiny bit of the chrysocolla (sorry for the dirty hands, working man and I wash them before eating dinner) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Peru is also famous for its excellent pyrite They have a weird, neat looking version of leopard skin jasper. Hydrothermal based no doubt. I got some finished pieces: Leopard skin jasper egg A terrific piece of stromatolite Not sure what this one is. He said petrified wood, but I know that is not right. Some sedimentary based rock. ?? Saved the two best for last. A huge chrysocolla coated quartz crystal And lastly, my friend gave me a quartz replacement of a clam. Hard to photograph, but the detail of the shell is absolutely incredible. A very special gift. Hope you enjoyed. I would HIGHLY recommend a trip to Peru. Safe, the people are great, and they have wonderful stuff to see there.

Wow, great pictures. That quartz crystal coated in chrysocolla is really cool. I'm not into fossils but the quartz replacement of a clam is definitely cool. Thanks for posting pictures.

That chrysocolla is incredible. The color is out of this world. But, best of show is that gift of a quartz clam. How cool is that? Wow.

I really love chrysocolla. I keep wanting to buy some, but am currently only setup for tumbles. Although, I do have a flat lap now. Hmmm... Thank you for showing us these pictures.
