Howdy. Haven't posted any cabs in a while. Our rock club went out to Wiley's Well by Blythe, Ca recently. We came back with some geodes from the Hauser Beds, but my favorite stuff from the trip was all the cabbing material we found. We got some fine lined rhyolite across the canyon from the Potato Patch. Sometimes the lines were all nice and parallel. Sometimes they got "squirrely". i think the squirrel designs are prettier. Paisley jasper Squirrely rhyolite Squirrely rhyolite Squirrely rhyolite

Great cabs, I especially like that they are self collected.
Peace,
Rich

Nice cabs and I agree with Rich; self collected rock always makes the best cabs

The rhyolite collected from the potato patch would be nearly the same in composition to the rhyolite that I collected on the opposite side of the Chocolate Mountains(obviously two different localities). I first thought these stones I was finding in Niland were petrified wood, but, upon further study, I learned what these unique stones were. They make excellent cabs and polish well as they have a high silica content. Often, you can see fractures in these rhyolite stones, healed with potent silica, a sign of fault activity in the area. The earthquakes can fractures agates and other stones and in time they will heal, crumble, heal, crumble. The brecciated rhyolite adds flare to the stone. Rhyolite can come in many light colors and alternates with a darker color, and create many kinds of scenes that boggle the mind. Nice cabs. I have this piece reserved for a later date...
