Hello all, For you I have another set of tumbles from my 8th grade class. These ones are from my 4th Period class. This class consists of all the higher level students, gifted students, and students taking high school Algebra. This tumble started back on December 5th and finished up this afternoon. The students love the batch but I am not the happiest with it. Some rocks got forced through that shouldn't have been and there were some issues throughout the tumbling process. First problem was that all the rocks were about the same size at the start. That was my fault and I should have checked before starting. Immediately I had to pull rocks to get a better mix of sizes in the barrel. Second problem was there was a lot of wasted time. This ran over Christmas break so it ran extra days that really did nothing for the shaping of the rocks. We also had a couple snow days in there that caused it to run extra days before clean outs. Third issue was that when we went on to 120/220 there weren't enough rocks to fill the barrel so I just pulled from some rocks that were already polished. Anyhow, the students like them and thats all that matters really, not my nit-picking. Here are some pictures, they were taken with my cellphone so they are not the best. I don't know why I don't grab the good camera at home!?!?! Group photo Unakite Some rocks from txrockhunterRandom Montanas Not sure of these. They are a bluish-green even through in the pic they look gray. The left one has metallic spots in it. Don't know but like the mix of colors....red, pink, purple, and green The smalls Thanks for looking and following along. I will be starting my last 8th grade class on the tumbler tomorrow. Then I am going to finish out the year doing a tumble with the 5th and 6th grade resource room students. Jake

I'm all for nit-picking - it helps us improve.
Of course it has to be mixed and matched with a healthy dose of reality and that is you have a great result right there!

Great batch. Students happy/teacher should be happy.
I guess the Lot-O is too awkward to bring to school. It would probably mesmerize them if you could bring a mobile vibe and do a polish starting Friday afternoon and ending Monday morning. Or find a spot at school you could run a vibe for them.

Jugglerguy, that was the last little bit I had from what you sent me. About 99.5% took an awesome polish, I think I only had 2 that undercut. Wish I could find that around here, it would make for some easy tumbles. jamesp, taking a vibe in would be awesome but I would have to put it in a storage room or something. Having that in my classroom would probably be a little too noisy. Jake

Awesome. Great variety. How many of these are self or student collected?

Great tumbles. Now teach them how to wire wrap those beauties.

napoleonrags, none are sadly. Not great rock collecting in Eastern Ohio. We mainly have limestone, shale, and coal. shermandukejewelry, that is a great idea. Sell them online as a class fundraiser to keep the class in rocks and grit. Might be a job better served for the art teacher though Jake

I think they turned out really well! I know your expectations have changed since you bought the Lot-o, but like you said, they are excited and that was the objective. Thanks for the updates!

txrockhunter, yeah the lot-o has definitely changed expectations of the final product and I need to remind myself of that. I was looking at some pictures from my first tumbles out of my rotary and these look way better than my first tries. As long as the kids are happy, thats all that really matters. Jake

These rocks have come from all over. Some I have bought from the RockShed, some I have bought from members, some were given to me by members such as txrockhunter, napoleonrags, and Jugglerguy to help me have a supply for my classroom. Jake
