I got this and a few others in a box of misc material awhile back and would like an id on it . The white areas scratch easy , the darker colored areas don't scratch with a knife . Any other tests I should do other than acid ?
Thank You

Strongly resembles Strawberry Onyx from the Ribbon Rock mine in the general area of Bristol/Ludlow/S.Cadys. There is one feature typical to the SO that I'm not seeing in your slab but it still very well could be it.

Didn't you say you often see faces in Strawberry Onyx? Creepy.

I can't figure out why it hasn't sold yet lol.

You need a strong imagination and/ or lots of beer.

In the right image I see Crusty the clown from the Simpsons. Bottom left.

My favorite is the evil mummy face on the lower left of the left image.

My favorite is the evil mummy face on the lower left of the left image. And here is an ugly blob ghost face right above it and partially in to the mummy. If you look closely in the upper right you can see the face of Speed Racer with the helmet.

Well, I don't see 5, maybe 2. You need a strong imagination and/ or lots of beer. Beer always helps...except after a few you don't care about faces quite as much I see five in just the left photo alone without having to use too much imagination. I like the survival instincts idea Billy it could also be a result of staring at it for so long during the cabbing process. I was wrong , I can scratch the darker banding areas but they seem to be a bit harder . I will try to post pics of the other three slabs I have . Thanks for the input Rich - this is only a temporary hijack of your thread until you post pictures of the other slabs - then your post will be released unharmed

I better go get some beer , don't see any faces in my slabs .

Have an idea what the last slab is ? The first two are of the same material as the one at the start of the thread . Last one is different .

When my kids would say something like... Did you see that monster over there in the woods? My reply would be, you bet it ran away after I looked over.
Do you wear those funny white coats, that the selves tie behind the back? :) Have a good day.
And sleep tight. Monsters Inc. are under your bed.
