Hotsprings, Arkansas is having beautiful weather this weekend and we can use our plane for there. A rockhound with an airplane at their disposal ... When do you begin studying for your pilots license? Lots of remote air strips all over the southwest.

(ETA: WITH AN AIRPLANE) I took some flying lessons, but I don't have my own plane. Been too long since flying lesson days, I wouldn't fly with me! But, if the pilot died in flight, I just might get ya down safely. As long as the plane had propellers!

In a year or 2 when I get a new truck, I keep telling my wife I am going to take 6-8 week one summer and go through the west/southwest on a rockhounding trip. I am off all summer from teaching and I think it would be awesome to map out a trip through 4 or 5 states collecting rocks and seeing the sights.

My sister an I want to do that. She's 4yrs my elder. She'll tent camp, get muddy/sweaty, hike up treacherous frontiers and chop through a mountain in the rain if I asked her to 😂 Word Of Advice (you already know this), don't put it off to long because weeks turn into decades at our age over night!

You know without wings there isn't any gliding possibilities if needed heehee

Oh no, no helicopter experience. Saying that maybe I could still land a Cessna or the likes.

Being totally honest, flying for me is a total means to a quicker end. I'm as nervous as a cat in a small room of rocking chairs every second I'm in it!!! I prefer ground under these feet!!

50k at Tuscon flies home with ya in a briefcase. $50K would buy you almost 50k acres of land around Tucson these days - big enough to build your own air strip haha. When do you begin studying for your pilots license? Lots of remote air strips all over the southwest. I actually own a small patch of land (4.5 acres with running well water) just outside Tucson in the Picture Rocks area - not big enough to land a plane on but definitely enough to park a trailer for a few weeks... I've been wanting to do this but just never seem to get it done.

Get On It!! Get a few buddy's pitch a tent and Let's Go Find Some Rocks!!! Well, can't really pitch tents on it - it's in a six property tract with HOA agreement and shared well in place. Many years ago I was going to build a house on it but unfortunately there was an actually literal curse placed on it. Now it just sits there in all it's ugliness waiting for some poor unsuspecting fool to buy it - and break the curse ... or not. Short term trailer stays are fine though
