It is okay to wash off stones finishing up the prepolish stage with 500 AO and let the stuff go down the drain? I know letting slurry go down the drain is a big no-no, and will clog the drain quickly. However, I figured the prepolish stage would be okay, but I'm not sure after years or decades of doing this, whether this will create a clog. Thoughts?

Thanks for the response. Even pre-polish is not okay? I didn't think there'd be much rock snot or dust from the pre-polish stage.

Certainly not worth the gamble. Nothing rock related goes down my drain. Not even polish.

NEVER! EVER! Get a bucket. get a few buckets. let the water evaporate. put the powder in the trash (or in your driveway).

It is the combination of rock dust and tumbling grit that will over time build up and clog your drain . It is like having some sand in a bucket of water , dump out the water and some of the sand stays in the bucket

Drains are a definite NO NO, the toilet bowl is a MAYBE, depending on it being hooked up to a city line or your own septic system ! I have given a few pails of rinse water a Viking funeral in the stool but it usually means cleaning residual gunk in the bowl. Easier and faster to let the rinse water sit over night an pour most out after it settles and then give the remainder a heave ho in the drive ! In winter I let it stand overnight and pour the clear stuff in the basement drain and let the almost empty bucket sit on the porch until it's solid then dump the small chunk in the garbage.

Can't believe no one asked if he rents.

Still, don't do something like that to a rented place.
I put my rocks in a paint pan and put that under the down spout and let the rain do the work. But...it has to rain.:) Free water, let it run down the driveway, no clean up. It works well for me. But also its hard for me to get my water outside.

Just want to agree with what everyone else is saying. If you leave this stuff sitting in a container it turns into cement, just like the slurry from coarse. It is more like flaky, dusty cement, but still cement. Ditto for polish.
