Just cut this gorgeous pastel Gem Bone, but not convinced I'm liking the shape, so may re cab it. The slab is still whole and used as a show and tell in my display cases, but the itch to make cabs from it is about to win. The little Florida shaped area on the right is where the water was drying

I have a soft spot in my heart for Dino bones, especially multi-colored. Nevertheless, the red is also a beauty.
I say go ahead and cab them. Otherwise, they will rarely be seen.

Nice bones. I like the shape of the cab, maybe sit on it a while and see if it speaks to you.

I like the shape too. It's a beautiful cab, the colors are great and the shine is terrific.
Peace, Rich

Thanks all. I love the cab, but I need to sit down with pencil and paper, make some design sketches and see if something trips my trigger. I make mostly traditional Native American style jewelry and this shape is not well suited for that. Re cutting is a last resort, but is not off the table. The more I look at it, the more I think it needs a second or third stone separated by sterling to make a simple intarsia type cab.

That is a great cab as it is. Not sure I would recut it. The slab is horrible...you should let me take it off your hands so you wont need to deal with it Can't wait to see what you do with it!

You don't see that color very much these days. Take a leap of design! & break away from your standard Native style. I agree that you should sit on it for a while & see what kind of inspiration happens. I'm trying to talk you out of recutting it & turning more bone cells into dust. I'm sure you can come up with a pleasing way to wrap some sterling around it. Lynn

Beautiful bone! I like the cab as it is, but having also made some that shape, I didn't end up liking mine either. Maybe it needs one curved edge?

Personally, I love the shape. But, if you really can't take looking at it, send it me. I MIGHT be able to find something to do with it. I say cut the slabs and a less desirable, smaller one for display.

I say cut the slabs and a less desirable, smaller one for display. Oh, it doesn't hurt my eyes THAT much. I did a couple of sketches today that didn't do anything for me, but have since had a couple more running around inside the brain and will make new sketches tomorrow. I just can't bear to sacrifice any of the bone by reshaping it. I'm feeling the want for another gem bone ring for myself, and the Orange would fill the bill nicely. A few years ago I lost mine that had some stunning reds and really miss it.

I don't blame you for not wanting to cut it anymore. My response was all messed up- I meant, cut the slab and USE a less desirable smaller one for display. I have plenty of less than desirable. LOL! I was going through my slabs last night and came across a nice big blue that I had forgotten about. Will cut that today, I think.
