Hello, I'm new to playing with rocks and I recently got a Raytech TV-5 for making some of the rocks i've collected shine. I've noticed that when I have the lid off, the rocks move around nicely but when I put the lid on, the rocks seem to slow down and almost even get stuck. The rocks have rubbed notches in each other and the bowl. Has anyone else had this issue with the lid? Any tips or tricks for moving past this? Also do I need a different bowl for each stage of polish?

I have found with my Raytech is that the lid has to be tightened tom the point of slightly bending the lid conecave, the bowl must be very tight to the table.

A separate bowl for polish then burnish is all that's needed, use your grind bowl for everything else, though it sounds like your current bowl had been damaged. During the 8 months I had my TV-5, It had to have the motor replaced under warranty, I wore thru a bowl quickly using 60/90 (NOT recommended), and eventually the cover wore out and I retired it. It needed to be pretty full to work properly. This was my 1st vibe, and as much as I loved polishing my rocks, I grew to hate that tumbler. Oh, and Welcome to the RTH forum! You are where you are supposed to be.

I've ran about 4 batches through my raytech tv-5. I have found if I put a rock that is to big in, or if I accidentally get too thick of slurry I get indentations in my rocks because they get jammed. As long as the rocks are the correct size and the slurry is the consistency of heavy cream I don't seem to have those issues. My guess is it isn't the lid that is causing the problem, but something going in inside that comes up after an hour or so of running.
