Took a drive to the road cut where the Llanite is. Recent rains exposed some boulders and I had my way with them, about 200 lbs plus. It wasn't all pain free though thanks to my little friend. my little buddy...ouch

I am in Texas this week and got rained out today. My mom used to say I was like chicken s$%t...all over. Was doing fine till the little bugger got me. Hubby got stung by an especially nasty tropical black scorpion while working in a plastics factory down in southwest Miami fla. He was feeding waste plastic sheeting from some Indonesian source into a shredder and when he got to the bottom of the bin a scorpion got him on the finger. He got really sick for almost two weeks. Sweet haul you got there

Nice haul of llanite. Too bad about the scorpion stinging you, not an exciting end to your day.

Heck yeah! Mel says that stuff is right off the side of the road. I was thinking about swinging up there when I was in Texas and taking a jack hammer with me. Any problem collecting there? Do the blue specks show up better on the side that is not weathered?
Where did the scorpion get ya, in the hand?

captbob yep right on the side of the road. No one seems to care. The material varies i think on density and size of the blue quartz. I read on the internet before I went up there the material was very and has a very high crush I belive 35000. The website said to call the chamber of commerce and they can get you in touch with some local ranches you can collect better material on. I imagine that is for a fee. Yes he got me on the ring finger, first for a scorpion sting or I should say burn.

ziggy too bad about the sting your husband got in Fla. This thing burned for a good 3 hrs. I thought it was a fire ant at first. Everything wants to get you in TX even the flora.

Ah the joys of our Texas striped bark scorpions. You learn to wear gloves but I still regularly get stung. Feels like having a cigarette put out on you for a few hours. Last time I got stung, I sat on one and had a more generalized reaction. Hurt clear down to above my knee. Just lovely!
The llanoite dike is hard stuff. You did good. I've broken a lot of handles off sledge hammers on that stuff. The best stuff is in the almost impenetrable big blocks of the dike. The weathered stuff is often more porous and undercuts badly.....Mel

Nice rocks. Sucks you got stung. The pic I would've had would be of a squashed scorpion lol

Nice rocks. Sucks you got stung. The pic I would've had would be of a squashed scorpion lol If you grab them by the stinger, you can pop them in your mouth and bite the body off and eat them. Tastes like lobster. Plus when YOU control the stinger, you can't get stung! Fuggin amateurs... Lol
