I have the Thumlers R 12 tumbler and the lids are only lasting for 1-2 batches. I purchased a lid that was supposed to be tougher than the factory lids. Tried the new lid and it almost wore through before the batch was done. Is this normal?? Right now I am testing a patch on the lid by rebuilding the center wear spot with JB weld to see how it holds up. Basicly it is a two part epoxy with steel filings. Mixed up a batch and used a Popsicle stick to screed a flat flat surface to fill in the thin area on the lid. I will keep you folks updated on this fix, but is it normal for lids to wear out so quickly?

I never seen the lid but if the inside top part of the lid has a radius it will wear faster. During the rotation of the rocks are forced to the center, if it was flat the rocks will go in a random area, the wear would not be as fast.

A frequent problem. It has been discussed several times on here (hopefully you will be able to find the posts). Basically though I have found that when I glued a piece of truck inner-tube inside the lid it fixed the problem. For several years!!! Hope this helps.

I have run mine for several months, pretty much non-stop without that happening. On one of the "how-to" guides I read about putting a band-aid over the carriage bolt to help cushion that part of the lid. You could also try hammering it down a bit (I have NOT done this) to lower the protrusion of the bolt, or even just hit it with a grinder and knock it down a bit.
I really torque my lid screw on, and that my create enough of a concave in the lid that it isn't prone to wear as much, but I can't say that for certain.

Thumler's 12 not Lortone.
I just buy new lids and keep them on hand for when the lids wear. At 4 bucks a lid (rock shed) that's not too bad. Order a couple/few to have when you make another order to save on the shipping. Usually get around a year out of a lid. Thought about doing the glue a rubber sheet to inside of lid, but not worth the effort for $4.
