Wondering here.
Are the vibes from the reloading companies, Lyman, RCBS, good for rocks?

I wish the answer were yes but it is not. Shell casings are lightweight and do not get tumbled with harsh abrasives so those vibes are built with springs and motors that will not hold up to the weight of rocks. Most of those also have flimsy barrels that would not stand up to the grits used for rocks also.

Won't say But that vib broke down after about a full months work and the weight/load was monitored all the time. They are just not meant for rocks.

Thanks for the info. I'm still exploring the different materials, methods and so forth looking for what suits and pleases me so I'm not putting in a lot of $ initially. When I do find "it" then I'll up the ante.
What would you suggest as a starter vibrating tumbler? Thinking something small so I can see how things work out.

The loto vibrating tumbler that a bunch of us use has one of the smallest capacities at 3-4 pounds. If you do not have enough rock ceramic media or pea gravel can be used as filler material. therockshed.com/tumbler1.htmlChuck

I don't know how handy you are but YouTube shows you how to make a vibe. Looks easy and inexpensive too. But only if making things works for you.

Thanks for the thoughts team. I appreciate them. If I can I'd rather make something than buy it. That way I know how to fix it. Waiting on garage sale season in these parts. Mentally designing a couple vibes and should be able to pick up what I need at them. Plus some other things for other projects I have in mind. Ain't imagination great? Everything works perfectly... First idea is a bundt cake pan (saw that idea on another thread) that will be an accessory/attachment/insert for my FL-10. Figure that lap is already set up to vibrate, why not multi task it. My other idea is to get a vibrating sander and use something along the lines of a Cool Whip tub. Just have to make sure I can deaden the sound, those vibrating sanders are noisy and drive me crazy! Then we'll try 'em and see.

Don't know if you looked at YouTube. They use a eleletric fan, with plastic blades. Leaves two blades on the shaft and cut the rest off. Turn it on and it vibrates real good, based on the speed of the motor, naturally and being out of balance.

Yeah, saw that one. Pretty neat. Also several other vibes based on different ways including 1 that used a vibrating sander.
I'll scrounge around the shop and see what I have handy to work with. Think I've got an old B&D hand vibrating sander that the shoe broke off.

Anybody know the power draw on the small Loto vibe?
Thanks

DIY is awesome, but surely a hand-sander motor isn't going to run for all that long...
