Oops, I missed the part about it being a salt water pool....maybe you could raise jellyfish, captbob? Florida may be different but here in Cali saltwater pool doesn't mean a marine environment. It means some salt is added and an electrolysis process frees the chlorine from the sodium in the salt. This chlorine then kills nasty yukkies.

Seems like a good way to go to me. Less maintenance, better on the skin, cheaper to run in the long term.

This chlorine then kills nasty yukkies. Exactly. Same here. Not sea water kinda salty. Actually some pretty good points going this route. Considered it when I built the pool for my dogs. Full sized pool like that = very good idea going "salt water".

Didn't see any goats, but there is a rather large chicken coop & enclosure behind the garage. Thinking wife unit will settle for chickens. Horse next door. Dogs will love that! Wonder what horse pop smells like in the heat of summer... been too long for me to recall. Looking like it is not going to happen now, but keep it (raising chickens) in mind for the next location you pick. There is nothing better than home grown eggs. Like home grown tomatoes, you will never eat another store bought one again.
Hope a truly good deal comes up for you before too long. I wouldn't even want to think about relocating all my junk and rocks elsewhere. Oh, not to mention the heavy machinery... sigh.

This ain't dead yet. Wife unit & I are just mulling over how low an offer we figure we can make before hitting the insult level. Not our fault the present owner bought back when the housing market was allowing prices much higher than now; nor the present condition of the house. We will have our Realtor talk to the listing Realtor (both owners of their own ReMax agencies, so they speak the same language) and explain the reasoning behind our offer. Seller wants to continue to hold out with an unreasonable price and sit on an empty house, that's her call.
Que Sera, Sera ...
Do chickens smell? yeah yeah, I know how they smell in a frying pan!

Chicken odors are directly related to density. How many square feet per chicken?
Obviously more is better. Three eggs ranches within 5 miles of me and none have odor.
Backyard chickens tend to be allowed to free range so almost zero odor. Cooped birds more so. Keep them dry and the enclosures clean. Add shavings for the floor so they can scratch and mix the poo into he soil. Shavings allow the poo to compost and keep odor down.
There is a huge backyard chicken movement in America. Plenty of knowledge online. They even convinced some big cities to allow hens in suburban backyards.
I want my chickens back!

Two families on our street have chickens. Both coops are in the back yard and the lots are big here. We own an acre. The chickens run free during the day. I've never smelled them but, as I said, they are a long ways from the road and even father from my house. Good luck on your decision.

The smell of horse biscuits is NOT the problem. It's the FLIES! A neighbor on the next street west had horses when we moved here. The flies were horrible.
They and the horses moved away three years ago and apparently the flies moved with them.

We raised chicken all our lives, my uncle used to ask me when I was a kid all the way until he passed .... "whats that white stuff in Chicken S&%$t...then say "just more Chicken S&^%t" he would just laugh. When I got a computer I looked it up and one day I told him after he asked that it was urea acid as bird dont pee...he looked at me and gave me his answer and laughed. Still asked me everytime I seen him. Because I work on the road and am seldom home my mom used to say I was like Chicken S&^%t.....all over. Then she would laugh. I sure miss my mom and uncle. I vote for chickens, like rockpickerforever said nothin better than fresh eggs.

A neighbor raised chickens right behind us. No smell, but we heard him announce the sunrise every morning! Kind of nice!

Hey, a deal is a deal. You have to be able to look beyond the purple wallpaper and envision what it would look like with some color of your choosing. I have bought cosmetically challenged houses and made them rise to the standards of a very particular wife. In the used bicycle game we call it the flat tire discount. The house I live in now had a dead muskrat floating in the ground level spa. I figure that beast saved me 10's of thousands of dollars because no one else was going to buy the house with him floating there. Hey, I was going to drain and clean the spa anyway. Buy the house, hemorrhage money for a few months and have a primo place in the end (if it would suit, if it was fixed). Just another perspective.

Well, did ya do the ciphering and decide what it would cost to fix it up?
Then calculate the time to do it and subtract that from the market price also.
Then go below that a bit for wiggle room.
Did make an offer?

Do it. The space will be heavenly. Unless there is major structural damage the structure can be repaired. Big out building, massive yard, pool, hot Florida weather. No brainer. Fixherup and enjoy the space.
If not that one, a cabin on the Withlacoochee so you can put me up on coral expeditions...
I have to say, the one thing I love about this farm is the space to spread wings. Space space space and location location location. Both can be had.
I would think you would want to move away from the hustle and bustle too. Florida coastal area is a zoo. I know where 5 acres is on Lake George....if you dislike people...

Limbo ...
Put in what we consider a reasonable offer, but it is very low considering the asking price. Doubt the seller will be thrilled, but it has been on the market so long that they have to realize that they are over priced. Been back to see house again and it would be a ton of work. Figuring over 30k before even moving in (complete kitchen gut, bunch of new windows, etc etc etc) and then there would still be a list of projects a mile long. Be all good when finished, but getting there wouldn't be easy or cheap.
One minute I can't wait to tackle it and the next I hope they don't accept our offer!
Tumbler clean out day - 7 barrels to play with to keep me occupied.
