at least a long 7 and a half hours ... Going to go see a house this afternoon. As in a house for sale. About 5 blocks from where we live now = easy move. Not that moving all this could ever possibly be considered easy, but as close as the new house would be, I could do a lot if it myself. Place is over twice the size of our current house. Lots of room for new display cases! Wife would LOVE that. (maybe not...) Yard is over twice the size of here. Bonus - in back yard there is a 4 car garage with a "bonus room" attached. See where this is going? Well over 1000 sq feet of ROCK SHOP *maniacal laughter* pic of garage & bonus room from listing - garage is two cars deep two cars wide That "bonus room" has to be a few hundred sq feet by itself. Lots of potential and room to do my thing. Wife gets double the living area, big ass kitchen and a salt water swimming pool. I get dream rock shop. Works for me! wife's new problem - yeah right.... I'll get stuck dealing with this as well *sigh* Place needs some attention, older widow lives there by herself. Doubt routine maintenance is high on her list. House has been on the market for awhile in an area where houses don't last a week. Concerning... why? Hopefully because it's over priced (I don't think it is) and not due to some defect(s). Not much I can't fix on a house, but I don't want to take over someone else's problems. Guess that is what inspections are for. There would have to be a pretty serious issue or issues for me to get scared off from this. Bursting at the seams here with little room left for more rocks and NO room to set up all the lapidary machines I have now, much less add (sphere machines) to the shop equipment. IF we get it, we will buy it and move at my leisure (pace) then sell this place once empty OR may even keep this place and rent it out. This neighborhood (right near Christian school) houses sell over listing price in a quickness or rent at stupidly high amounts. Folks want to be here (above flood zone) and kids can walk a block to private school. gonna be a long day darn good thing I don't chew my nails. May end up smoking an extra pack today tho ... Think I'll go rake the yard

Congratulations, captbob !
Larger house, more room, big yard... What's not to like? Sounds like a no brainer.
But... Do the next door neighbors have a chihuahua or two? Wouldn't want you to have separation anxiety, lol. That could be a deal breaker right there.
Hope your wait to hear something is not interminable, and you receive only good news.
PS. - Doesn't everybody in FL have a pool? Jean

Almost sounds too good to be true, cap'n. From the few pix it sure is a dream property.
Good luck!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Sounds like a move in the right direction. Just think of all that room for a proper rock shop and expansion ... with a man cave right next door to it! I hope you have a pitbull for a realtor.

Good for you! I have always wanted a separate shop area from the garage. Right now, we have a 3-car with no room to start adding equipment. Next house will hopefully have it. Congrats.

Hmmmm, takes you 7.5 hours to go five blocks and check out a house? I must be missing something here. .
At any rate, I hope you like it after your inspection, and that you actually get it. It sounds goooood!

Nothing set in stone here yet. Realtor meeting us at 5:30 for showing and will know more then.
Neighbors on both sides there do not have fenced in yards, which means (to me) no dogs running loose.
Will NOT miss having oopsing chihuahuas next door!
Area zoned to own/have horses, goats and/or chickens. uh... wheee?
Wife thinks goats are "cute". *sigh* Oh hell no!

In light of a future goat herd I propose a new name.

Didn't see any goats, but there is a rather large chicken coop & enclosure behind the garage. Thinking wife unit will settle for chickens. Horse next door. Dogs will love that! Wonder what horse pop smells like in the heat of summer... been too long for me to recall.
I now completely understand why the house has been on the market so long.
The place is a total disaster. I have no idea how they managed to get the pictures they used in the listing. NOTHING looked like any of the 25 pictures in the listing.
Big on potential. They would have to seriously lower the price. Not sure that's gonna happen. Seller may figure someone may buy and tear down the house and rebuild. Land here worth more than buildings. Not sure that I want to tackle this one. Hate to pass on a challenge, but it would be the project of my lifetime.
Still thinking on it. Vacillating between disappointed and intrigued - Throw enough $$ at it and it could be one heck of a house. Must keep desire for rock shop from leading me into stupid questionable decisions.

That's too bad. I don't know how old you are, but depending on your age, it still could be a good investment if you have the fortitude to do a lot of the work yourself. I mean, I doubt I'd take it on at my age- not that I am really old, but I just don't have that kind of energy anymore. Sucks to be misled after getting your hopes up.

Admit it, captbob....you *really* don't want to leave your chihuahuas and custody battles are always nasty...but a positive aspect of the new property is that you could raise one heck'uva crop of frogs in the pool!!!! Btw, hello.

Wow! Freaking awesome! All that space, a rock shop area and a salt water pool. Man, I'd jump on that. I used to go to a salt water plunge at Santa Cruz all the time. I love salt water pools!. Should be at least a week before you fill all that new space with rocks *L*....Mel
