Hey Jess. I haven't seen you posting on RTH for a while, so it is good to see you back and ready for hounding the beaches. here goes ...
Clarke Head - This area is interesting to geologists, but I have never found anything interesting here to take home.
Wasson Bluff - I was there on Saturday. Lots of Chabazite down and lots more to fall. Not much Stilbite this year. The cliffs were active and I took small "pinger" to the head. Fortunately, it was just gravel sized, but still managed to break the skin. Lesson learned, never hunt without your baseball cap. Two Peregrines have claimed the cliffs above, so you may get a little screeching if you get too close.
McKay Head - I have found quartz flowers and siliceous sinter in vugs there. There is also a lot of light blue Chalcedony if you are into tumbling. Zeolites are less common, but I seen others walk out with nice ones. There is also banded iron as you walk from McKay Head towards Moose River.
Two Islands is VERY dangerous in reference to the tides. On a normal low tide, you have about 20 to 30 minutes before and after the low tide to cross over and back. Don't even attempt this. On a really low tide (full moon or new moon) you may have up to 45 to 60 minutes before and after the low tide to cross over and back. Attempt this, but keep an eye on the tide and your watch. The crossing is never dry. Even at low tide, you will be ankle to shin deep in water. Knee high rubber boots work best. Bare feet are out as you will be "crunching" over a mussel bed. Don't underestimate the crossing time. It is about 0.5 km and will take you 15 to 20 minutes because you are sloshing through water and don't want to slip.
Five Islands campground will give you beach access, but you may have to pay a Day Use or Parking fee. From what I recall, the basalt and Zeolites are on the islands. You would have to find a local with a boat that would take you across. I haven't tried this myself, so I can't offer you and leads.
Don't forget about Partridge Island. I was there two weeks and three weeks ago and found material worth bringing home both times.
You should try Cape Sharp by the lighthouse. The walk in involves a good climb along an overgrown access road and getting down the cliff is tougher than typical locations. Bear scat on the walk in always adds a little excitement to this location.
Cape Spencer involves and Cap D'Or offer up zeolites and copper. They are a little more work to get to and beach access is a little tougher.
It sounds like you have explored most of the locations on the north side of the Minas Basin. The other locations are on the other side from the Blomidon to Amethyst Cove to Ross Creek to Morden. You will need a few nights on the road to plan a trip around these locations.
Darryl.
