I have done a couple of runs with no problems. However, when I went to do a clean out of my stage one barrel the other day, it seemed that some of the material/grit was stuck at the bottom of my barrel. It was mostly smalls and ceramic media. Some tie the grit that was in the bottom seemed unspent. Once I hit it with a direct stream of water, it washed out fine. In the barrel was a Variety of sizes, actually it was the second time for the same barrel in stage one, maybe added a little filler. Just curious as to what you guys think caused it...not enough water, etc. I do know that it didn't sit once I initially loaded it. Thanks

I ran into that same issue when I was running too many smalls in the barrel .

You say you added a little filler. What was the filler? I've had this problem when I tried using plastic beads in the first stage. I did that about three times all with the same results. I no longer use plastic beads in stage one.

I added some additional ceramics to make up for the decrease in material after running stage one the first time I'm not sure why that would be a problem, unless it was as Rich said. I've never noticed a problem with running too many smalls, but then again, I am more likely to not have enough smalls in a batch. I never use ceramics in the first stage. I make up for the rocks removed and the wear on the rocks by replacing the space with more rough rock. I don't like to wear my ceramics out in the first stage and I'd rather be grinding on more rough.

I had this same problem when I ran small ceramics during stage 1. I quit using them for this step and haven't had anymore issues.

I use BBs. My kids had tubes full of them and just sitting around. Never had a problem like that but it could be for another reason. But don't know what.

B-B's? Interesting, as I'd think that the fact that they are like ball bearings they'd just roll and not really be a carrier of the grit, which is what he needs more of. Do you have any more detail as to how they work compared to anything else?

One thing is they don't float like some plastic balls and no sharp corners. They do wear down. I still use clay but it doesn't collect in the bottom.
