Checked out a couple different pits the past weekend , limited success . Did manage to come up with a few jaspers . One decent size and some tumbler food , some could be sliced . big one , 4-5 pounds , Again , thanks for looking . Nice finds,there is a graval pit just got the ok to dig. Alot of ancient graval beds around here,would like to try and get permission to hound.

I feel kinda fortunate , the pits around here are locally owned by not huge companies and I know the owners . One of 7 pits within 6 miles from my house is county owned . Plus the river banks . Permission isn't hard to get . I usually give the owners a thank you of polished rock things .

Hard to find pits to hunt in. I have access to a few up here, but work pits all over the U.S. North of Indianapolis had the worst rocks, North TX lots of fossils, San Antonio no rock just pebbles.....

I think @shotgunner was looking for some of that too.

I think @shotgunner was looking for some of that too. Yup , that's what it is . We find a little around here . I am stockpiling until I have enough to do some trading . Have lots of the stuff with red jasper dots and shiny hematite dots in it . Cabs real nice .

I think the big one here might be Mary Ellen Jasper. Come in basically two forms where the columns are visable, classic Mary Ellen and what I cal a mat. One is formed in deeper water (cant remember which) The mat looks more wispy I will look for pictures. Of course there is both in the same stone. Sometimes a lot of red and little hemitite and then theres lots of hemitite and little red.
