Hey Chuck, I'm thinking that I recall reading that one would use an acid wash to clean pyrite. Been a long time. Not so sure that tumbling will do what you are after. But Google should lead you to the proper method to clean your pyrite. If no one here chimes in. Depending on the specimen, it may even be beneficial to apply a clear coat once it is clean to keep it from oxidizing again.

I have some ore containing iron pyrite as a major component. Kind of glittery pretty stuff. Its a sulfide ore. Cleaning this stuff with water tarnishes it.
