A few weeks ago during a week of particularly strong storms our neighbor's tree came down through our fence. This was in the back of their property and not visible from the house. They are an elderly couple, so we took care of it. They noticed a few days later and offered to pay us for the work and damages. We refused. Today my neighbor gave me this. He had taken up woodworking in his retirement. I can promise that this candle plate took many more hours of work for him to make, than what we spent on the tree and our fence. Amazing work!

That is beautiful. A lot of time and love went into it. You were blessed for your kindness.

That is beautiful! I know that took some time. Beautiful scroll work.
My brother helps his neighbors a lot, too. The neighbor does woodworking also and has given him some pretty cool stuff. Phil, the neighbor, always teased my brother about not having a ceiling fan in his living room, so he made him a very realistic looking faux ceiling fan to hang up there. It was a joke really, but it was actually pretty awesome.

That is very nice and many hours of work.
Sometimes you may not feel right to receive a gift. it is hard to do but being a giver is as important as being a taker.

Thoughtful of your neighbor for the handicraft thankyou gift, it's a nice one. We think nothing beats homemade, true expression of a person.

That fretwork is gorgeous and the perfect way for your neighbor to repay your kindness. You are right about the amount of time it takes to make that. The blade has to be taken off of the saw and placed through drilled holes for each of those cut out spaces - hence the name fretwork. It is definitely the type of gift to give someone you appreciate.
