My wonderful Wife of 32 years surprised me with a Foredom bench system for Fathers day, so I spent the morning setting it up and transferring goodies to the new holders. I still have to drill a big hole in the bench top to feed the cord through for the foot control, but it is a pretty neat system and badly needed organization and storage for my cramped work space at the shop. The light bar turns off automatically when flipped upright, but it does not swivel on a horizontal plane. I will try to find a collar with a set screw to fit the support shaft and install under the mount and loosen the screws ever so slightly so it rests on the collar and can be pushed and pulled over or away from the bench as needed. I need to buy a hand piece holder to attach to the upright also, then I will be all set!

That sure is a neat organized set up . One question , why the spring on the motor hanger ?

That sure is a neat organized set up . One question , why the spring on the motor hanger ? Thanks. Rarely have I been accused of being organized. The support arm has two holes in it so one can hang two Foredoms if needed, so the spring goes through a hole and provides a way to hang the unit(s). I suppose a simple "S" hook would work, but the springs came with it, so that's what I used. I'm sure it will provide a bit of dampening effect and perhaps lessen some strain on the arm if the flex shaft accidentally gets tugged on overly hard

That's quite a nice setup. I especially like the hanging files and I wish I could find a way to rig something like that. Can you pull a file off of the magnetic strip without the arm following along?

They can be pulled straight down, but I was actually thinking of devising a wedge to fit snugly in the open area so the arm can not swivel. I will check later, but I don't believe the screws it swivels on can be tightened enough to prevent movement. I used to have two of the magnetic bars mounted on the wood strip along the top of the plexiglass, but moved one to the wall below the fire extinguisher for the more rarely used files. The German saw frames are steel and are hanging from a magnetic strip at the right, but the Swiss frames are Aluminum, so are hanging from hooks in the wood strip. I desperately need more work space, but my two displays to the left and a small entryway leaves no room for more

I really need to come up with something similar. I leave my larger files lying in the sweeps drawer and I have my smaller needle files just sitting on the bench. They're not organized and every so often a few the latter get knocked to the floor.

Harbor freight has magnetic tool holder bars pretty cheap that work very well for files. www.harborfreight.com/18-in-magnetic-tool-holder-61199.html The only down side is the files will become slightly magnetized and will pick up pins, binding wire and such. There is one in the pic underneath the big Red fire put-r-outer thingamabobber

That's a great gift! I know how much you love it because I got it too for my birthday from my wonderful husband. I got the light, which I had to return and I got 2 of the tool bars, 2 of the tray bars, and a handpiece holder. I still have a boxed tool holder that I couldn't fit. I absolutely LOVE it. I have a small space, too, so this really helps. You know- It looks like I have the exact same wooden tool holder, too. I can see the back of it in your picture. Mine was originally a letter holder kind of thing.

After closer inspection, I was able to tighten the pivot bolt to snug the bars down so they would not swing, at least not easily. I'm still fine tuning and adjusting things and kind of lost with so many things in new spots.

Being a little lost must be frustrating — difficult to know if it's the new arrangement or the usual case of bench blindness getting in the way. At least that's my usual problem. It's really bad when its the piece or parts for the piece I'm working on. "Now, where did I put that? It was right here! Now it's gone." A couple of minutes later: "Oh. Why did I put it there?!" or "Oh, it's right in front of me!"

This is a mini organizer I bought years ago for $20 and about croaked when I went looking for a pic of one just now! $40-$50 for the things! This is very close to mine, but I sure wish it was bigger

I work with the Optivisors down a big part of the time, so when both hands are full, especially with a lit torch in one, things "disappear" out of the field of view all the time.
