I have been buying rough threw the summer from several different sellers on Ebay and have yet to get good quality stones. We gather our own rocks threw the fall but it doesn't last us long enough to run year round so we resort to buying rough stones online. I was hoping some of you could share some online sellers that you deal with and buy from or maybe is there a seller in the group. Thanks in advance!!

The Rock Shed is a pretty good source. I have bought some stuff from Ebay in the past and was disappointed with some vendors. I've had good luck with a couple, but Ebay is a crapshoot. Rock Shed is a great place to start, especially if you are new to the hobby. The descriptions are accurate, and they're great folks. Dave

rock shed has always been great for me
The Rockhound gave me the worst online customer service I have ever experienced VIA ebay so I will never recommend them

It's always best if you can get to a rock show & buy in person. Can you make it to Quartzite in Jan? The Denver show is the second week in Sept. Larger towns even have small shows that are great sources of rough & slabs. Lynn

Most of my rough was bought from The Rock Shed. Great place. I've bought good stuff from Kingsley North also.

Not sure on the best place. I have been satisfied with rough from;
Riverbend Lapidary, not a wide selection, good quality and excellent packaging, the best packed box I ever received.
Rock Shed.
Madagascar Minerals, call them, reprice was lower than the online price.
Kingsley North, moved away from there, it was cool to dig through the rock bins and choose your pieces.
This site. Watch the trading section. Or post your needs.

I prefer to buy my rough at the Rock Shed, but you CAN find some nice Tiger Eye rough at Amazon (a rarity!) - only twice as expensive (ouch!). If you do a search on "AAA" Tiger Eye rough" you will find them. The pictures given on Amazon tend to be "posed" to show only the few best in the batch. I have begun to trust the pictures shown by the Rock Shed as being more realistic of what I am about to buy.

Dittos on the Rockshed and Kingsley North, both good IMHO.
I've rolled tigers eye from Kingsley North and was happy with it.

I've given up on eBay. Most of what I've gotten was obviously the sellers' culls/castoffs. I like Gems By Mail's $9.95 flat rate shipping regardless of size/weight/quantity. At this point I don't tumble enough at a time to make it worthwhile, though. I've had fairly good luck with The Rock Shed. Many of the stones are too big for my little barrels, but that's to be expected. Got a 3lb. bag of mixed rough from them last week. Very few obvious fracture lines. Two were cutoffs. Some were beautiful stones. All were useable after a bit of cutting/chiseling.

Rocktumbler.com had some awesome Botswanas. Other than this board, that was the best deal I ever bought. Anyone know if they still have Bots?
Because I'm a tumbler, born under punches.
