Finally after about a year and a couple trades i was able to see what i call "The Steel Drum Collection". On my last trade the guy i know offered me the redwing 26A bench grinder and i asked if he would throw in some rocks. And that i would like to pick them from the steel drums i had been hearing so much about. He agreed but i had leave my truck at his house an put 10$ gas in his truck and drive out to his little place in Boone Co. A little town on the outskirts of my town. When we arrived at his place in Boone we went into a garage and there in the back sat 3 steel drums and a small homemade rock saw. The rock saw was actually made in a small steel drum also. I'll get pictures next trip out there. Pressed for time i only had about 30min to pick rocks. I barley scratched the surface of the drums. The rocks look all the same covered in greasy dust. They have been sitting there untouched in like 40 years. No lights no water and no time i managed to pick out a dozen maybe cutter size rocks. I believe this material is pre 1970's due to the story of how he got them and by the material. I don't know what most of these are so any help identifying them would be appreciated. All photos will be shown wet. First a group shot. I will post individual photos of each rock my device is acting up. If i post more then one picture it deletes everything but the subject title. So please bear with me thanks.

Nothing better than gaining access to a very old collection like that! Fantastic rocks and I hope that you get the chance to go back and pick through them again and again. I'd just make an offer on the entire lot were I there. Sabre52

I'd just make an offer on the entire lot were I there. Sabre52 Well captbob, i have to be very carful i know if i say wrong word it can change everything. I have had the opportunity to meet people like this. I would describe them as Hermit type. Alone untrusting and really not liking to many people these days. But i build a relationship with them mostly by just hearing what they have to say. And not saying much my self. I had a guy that had a huge ranch filled with tons of stuff after about 5 years he invited me to his property to buy things. On average i would get a truck and trailer load of items of what he offered. One day i asked if i could buy and item of which he had not offered and that was the last time i was ever out there. Not that the item was anything special. But before that i would just listen to his stories about what he was offering. And i learned to let them do the talking. Believe me i wanted to ask about making a deal on what he had. But i was scared it could be the end of it. Took me nearly a year just to see them. Every time we talked he would always tell me about them. However is is fascinated with my wrapps. And i took one of my silversmithed pieces to show him. He did offer me to come out again so thats a good thing. Just have to take it slow.

They are just used to being run down and kicked around by the blowhard know it alls ,sure we all know a few like that ,whenever they start telling their stories . Keep listening and learning .

Jackpot came to mind but I don't think that word covers it. Maybe jackpot on steroids. Jim

Frank that is amazing. The bloodstone is correctly identified.
Love your tales of meeting these old timers. We have all met them. You seem to have the gift of knowing them. Good on you.
