Ooohhhh weeeeee!! I've never seen one like this near me before. Lots of others near Knoxville Tn too MrMike Garage Rockerknoxville.craigslist.org/gms/d/hybrid-estate-sale-in-oak/6371253997.htmlExcerpt ROCK COLLECTION Lifetime's worth of rock and mineral specimens, in all shapes and sizes, ranging from fossils in various conditions, to identified crystals, to lapidary quality polished slabs, and finishing with hundreds of pounds of tumbled stones. The auction and tag sale also include virtually everything you would need to cut and polish stones, from a diamond saw, to lapidary and grinding wheels; several tumblers and a variety of tumbler medium. The auction has dozens of lots of gemstones and beads, as well as fossil lots, while the tag sale has the majority of the hundreds of individual stones and tumbled rocks sold in 2- and 5-pound bags, at bargain prices. We will have a gemologist working the sale to help identify and price unmarked specimens throughout the day. We also have wooden boxes of rough material, including: Smoky Quartz, Petoski, Agate, Amethyst, Unikite, Corundum, Chalcedony, Petrified Wood, Obsidian, Geodes, Fossils, and much more. Photos are extensive, but nowhere near complete of everything we have. Dozens of Various Sizes of Wooden Trays for Organizing Collections

I want the sellers to know as little as possible about the value of the "boring" rocks I want to purchase. Chuck

They have a buy it now option for some of the online items. I bought a Lortone R40 tumbler for $100 & an R20 tumbler for $75!!!!! Pick up is next Saturday & I plan to look at what’s left of the tag sale items. Some really cool stuff in this sale. The online auction has lots of cut gems. If any of you jewelry makers are interested in buying some I would be glad to pick them up & ship to you. Just make sure you study the pics closely & count the stones so there aren’t any questions when you get them.

Are you getting in on the action Ann??? Looks like y’all hit the mother load possibly. I’d drive up but Booked our weekend in Nashville today. We’re taking my middle son, his girlfriend, Hannah away to Music City come Friday morning. This auction does sadden me a little. So many wonderful things and not a family member in site that would keep up the legacy and memories.

Chuck I thought the very same thing. I might have even muttered a cuss word under my breath when I read that line. Now my question is, do I go on Saturday morning and pay full price or wait until Sunday and get the half price left overs?

I might be wrong but I beleive most of the cut gemstones are for sale in the online auction. I noticed yesterday that the sale actually starts at 1pm on Friday. And I just happen to have Friday off . We have bid on a couple of the mixed boxes to split between us, but are going to hold fast on our bid price, so I expect that we will be outbid, which makes needing to be there on Saturday a mute point. So right now we are expecting to go on Friday. Tina and I are both interested in some of the jewelers tools and of course the rough.

My friend Tina and I headed up to Oak Ridge, TN on Friday morning. The sale started at 1pm and we were feeling really good as we pulled into the neighborhood a good 50 minutes early. Our hopes of being the first people there were quickly dashed as we found people already fighting for parking a good 1/4 mile away from the house. Not being 'estate sale' people we were shocked. The home was small, so they were assigning numbers to stagger the entry we ended up being 74 and 75. As we were walking up I saw a tall man walking back towards the cars carrying the big tumbler that I know MrMike bought online in the early sale. So I quickly accosted the guy, forcing an ID, to prove that he was indeed our Mr Mike and not some interloper stealing his fantastic deal. It was Mr Mike, so I didn't need to sic Tina on him. Now that Mike has met her, he understands the reference. LOL It was great to meet Mike, the three of us have the same professional degrees and like rock. Hopefully will get to dig with Mike in the future! Before they started letting people in, the estate people introduced the 'expert' direct from JTV . He was really proud of himself and announced that all stone sales would go through him. That somethings were not marked correctly and would possibly be higher priced. He stated that all the yard rocks would be priced at $4/lb or higher (after he looked at them). Tina, Mike and I spent the waiting time looking at the yard rocks anyway. I got real lucky and snagged a piece of dino bone from under some leaves. The cells are white, but it's about a pound and I was really tickled. Tina suggested that I rub some dirt on it, to mask the cells and see if I could get it cheaper than $4. I simply avoided the JTV guy at every turn and when I checked out the guy didn't even want to weigh the rock and asked me if $1 each for all the individual rocks and slabs I picked was good with me. So here is everything that I got for a dollar each. Chunk of dino from the yard. Back side: Front side: Side Found these slabs inside while dodging the JTV guy This one made me REALLY happy. It on the thin side though. Two more that are thin, but nice. Are these Ocean Jasper? Nice little chunk of Tigers Eye. Should cut several slabettes. Nice thick slab. It this thulite? Little chunk of our NC corrundum in smaragdite. I did buy one box. This was the label on the box. Not all labels were correct on the boxes. So please help me ID what was in the box. The three smaller stones MrMike found outside and gave to me, but they match the larger one. In the sun it does have a fine green mossy plumes that run throughout. Green and red moss This is a big chunk, should cut several slabs. Does it have a name, or is it just generic yellow jasper. Im guessing this is the 'Mexican Nodule'. One piece, multiple views. Is this the zebra agate? I wouldnt' think so, unless it is just the black and white strips near the one end. Two pictures same chunk. Just those few little dots of blue in the corner, mostly lighter green veining. Not as dark as the picture shows. And this was in the box too. Front and back images. About 3 inches thick. Thanks for looking.

Nice finds. So, no equipment/tools?
Great plan to dodge the "Gem Guy", as much as possible. Since he was full of himself, seems from what you said, his knowledge was maybe limited in rough specimen's? Also loved the tactic of rubbing dirt on the nice part of the dino bone.
Wish something like this would appear near me.

Glad you found some nice stuff for your troubles. In guessing a big rock sale East of the Mississippi is going to bring out a lot of competition. They're rare around here. Good for you, looking out for MrMike.
