Hi! I've really been wanting to find some cool gems, or minerals or rocks, I'm from the Bay Area. I know I'm a new user, I don't mean to burn peoples spots. I've just never had any luck finding anything through all my hiking, nothing but serpentine rock. Closer to san mateo is better. Thanks so much!

chinnychinchin, when I lived in Cupertino, I hunted beach agates around Pescadero Beach. Just hop on 84 to San Gregorio or 92 to Half Moon Bay & drive down the coast. There has been discussion about the Pescadero area here on the forum. A Google search of pescadero rocktumblinghobby turns up some good results. Lynn

chinnychinchin I 2nd what zarguy said - from San Mateo it's just a hop and a skip over hwy 92 to the coast - then most of the better pebble/rock collecting beaches are south between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. If nothing else it makes for a fun day out and about looking for treasures. Nothing much to find around the peninsula area - I lived in various places from San Mateo to Palo Alto for 20+ years. I have seen Sabre52 talk about stones to be collected at the shore line in East Palo Alto but I value my life too much to spend a whole lot of time on that side of town.
