I'm wanting to get started in this hobby with a setup that will last a while. I've read a bunch of information on these forums and am just about ready to place an order but first wanted to post it here just to be sure I'm not overlooking anything. I plan to follow what is described in this post: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/942112

I would get some large and small cylinder ceramics to use in the Lot-O. therockshed.com/grit2.htmlI would also suggest getting some rocks since you get a nice % off when purchasing a tumbler.

Dave has already given the advice I would give you. That's an excellent start.

My order history with them looks like this: Bahia Agate Bahia Agate Botswana Agate Bahia Agate Blue Lace Agate
I'm obviously stuck on the "b's"

Thanks for the advice, I've added some ceramics and am looking at the various crushed rock. I've got a bunch of rock that I picked up recently from a ranch my family has in west Texas so already a bit behind with things I want to get tumbling.

Looks like your list is now covered... 'Just think you would benefit from 5 more lbs more of 70/90 grit silicon carbide AND another 5 lbs of 220 grit (take advantage of that Rock Shed discount on grits and ceramics when you buy the tumblers from them). you will spend many more weeks of grit change-out in the first stage of tumbling using the QT66. Most of shaping will be done there before moving to the Lot-O.... so the 90 and 220 grits will be used up more rapidly (more so in the 6 lb barrels than the Lot-O).

Don't order the vibe now. It will be some time until you are ready for it. Get a good bunch of mixed stones. You won't see them shiny, but you can wet them and see. Maybe you will find some rocks you like. Order the vibe and take a discount on the rough you liked.
You will also start to get a handle on grit usage and get a discount on that second order also.

I would not recommend adding any additional 120/220 grit. You only use 2 tablespoons per Lot-O batch. That 2lb bag should last quite some time. Extra 60/90 (or even 46/70) would be a good idea though (if you know you're going to stick with this hobby).

There’s some excellent advice in that thread you linked to. Good job. I agree with the advice above, especially the ceramics and more coarse grit. I’d get either all 46/70 or at least some and try both 60/90 and 46/70 to see what you like more. I use all 46/70 now.
Welcome to the forum.
