I grew up on a farm and understand how animals (though fun and tasty) tie you down. These day I much prefer petrified animals. They eat less, hardly ever crap on the floor (unless assisted by gravity) and don't have to be wormed. Plus you can go on a trip and leave them at home alone and not have a destroyed house when you return.

So cute! My brother had a ragdoll for years and years. She was a wonderful, friendly, sweet, smart pet without the attitudes of the siamese that we had. However, the ragdoll did terrorize all of the dogs in his neighborhood. This little guy is already practicing his stalking and pouncing skills on my dogs. Too funny. They just look at him, unimpressed.

My great uncle had a ranch with a ton of monster cats, some kind of huge black Manx with short tails and about as big as bobcats. My sis and my folks loved them but they always killed on my snakes etc ( would even break into my terrariums) so I did not appreciate their presence. Guess I'm just a dog person. Have always loved the doggies of all sorts. That is one cute little kitten though.....Mel I love the cats' hunting instinct. I know they do serious damage on small game and song birds, but they can't help their nature. This one will stay inside, attacking only passing ankles. I'm a dog person, cat person and any other pet person. Have had a ferret, rabbits, many dogs and cats, fire belly toads, fish and currently have a guinea pig and hermit crabs. Hard for me to say no to the boys, since I had pets of all kind growing up, even the occasional captured snake.

Ash is gorgeous! Good decision and you're going to have a ton of fun with her. Did they say she was a blue point? She looks more like a seal to me, with the almost black nose. Ragdolls are more like dogs than cats. Mine wait at the door for me when I get home, do tricks, and right now my boy is sleeping upside down in my lap as I type. They don't have a lot of bad "cat" habits like clawing things and climbing the curtains. I have a regular rescue cat also, and boy is there a huge personality difference! Thanks! I looked at Maine Coons and Ragdolls this time around. I like the Ragdoll personality, the more I read about them. This guy is a seal colorpoint. He was darker than his siblings and I liked this look. I also wanted a male, because most of the female cats I've had were a little more aloof and stand offish, especially toward strangers, than the males. That's not a rule, but just my experience. He's a pretty affectionate cat, so far. Likes his belly rubbed.

I went looking online for rag dolls or Maine coon kittens in my area. Guess, I should wait for spring. I miss our little kitten so much. We've had our eye open for another since we lost him. My BIL who does spay and release promised us the pick of the next litter, but all his strays have now been fixed. We'd have to wait for the next one that saunters into his yard. Seeing this gorgeous little fur ball makes me even more impatient. How old is Ash? Ash is 10 weeks old. I had some trouble finding a Ragdoll kitten in time for Christmas. There were a few around here, but they must have been show quality, or something. The price was beyond what I wanted to pay. Even the shelters were slim pickins for 'regular' kittens. I am hesitant to say what I went through to get this one, because it sounds crazy, even to me. As time was running out, I expanded my search from KY, to Ohio, to TN, to Indiana, WV and ultimately ended up with a cat from Canada!!! Not quite the North Pole, but close enough.

Part way to Canada, from KY, is a loooong way. Two days after I met her, the area was in the news for receiving 55" of snow, if that tells you anything.

LOL! Put that time to good use! I'm sure the family really appreciates what you went through. It was nice of the seller to do that, too.

(dork) Had a ragdoll when I was about 13 that I got when the breeder shut down-one of my favorite breeds. One day I will have my Maine Coon. Now when my daughter asks -I feel bad. She keeps throwing BUT YOU OWNED A WOLF in my face : ( hate saying No

Hard to argue when you've had a wolf! Ha! My wife tells me all the time I should have been a vet. I thought about it when I was in school, but went another direction. One of my biggest regrets.
I looked at Maine Coon kittens also. I had a MC mix when I was little that was awesome. I would like to have one of the silver ones.

She keeps wanting me to get her a Ferret or a fox-Not going to happen- LOL! (Ok I lie, maybe a fox .....) I should of been a vet or worked for the DNR, I worked as a tech at the only vet in town (at that time) We did large, small and exotics. Loved that job.....Always figured I wasn't smart enough. I do regret not trying..... My aunt has 3 MC, one of them silver. I love their size and naughtiness. I would love a black one

I've seen those pics before. Love them. If you have pet pics to share, add them to the pet thread I started. Would like to see that wolf, especially. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/78131/puppy-great-distraction-pet-pics?page=1

I will post pics of all my fur babies. I will have to look for one of Cuyuna-I think my mom has them all. That was one animal that fascinated me and scared me a bit at the same time. She was so loyal and protective. She sucked at retrieving, but could track like no other. She had a nasty habit of killing things and dropping them off at the front door. Almost every day my dad cursed me for bringing her home. Never was able to keep her from getting out of every enclosure we built. Dad put her down after she decided to take on a porcupine one night. I loved the experience of owning one, but its not something I would do again or recommend for anyone to do.

Beautiful ragdoll kitty, Randy Garage Rocker ! I'm sure your boys are extremely happy to have gotten what they wanted for Christmas. So easy to please, they are, just gotta drive halfway to Canada to make it happen, lol.
The thing is, ragdolls are still Siamese, with that Siamese cat catittude and very voiciferous to boot. Like you, Randy, I am partial to the Maine Coons, as well. Since we're sharing kitty pics, here's a few of my "probably partly/mostly" Maine Coon. Can't say for sure what her heritage is, as she was forced upon me as a newborn. (Take her home and bottle feed her or she is going to die, etc.) Her mom abandoned her at birth, for whatever reason. So we got to bottle feed her the KMR every few hours, the whole nine yards.
This is Wendy. Sorry for the crummy pic quality, a digital pic of a photo. But it tells the story. This is shortly after her eyes opened.
With her big sister, Shadow.
And this is the gorgeous cat she turned into. She was going on 22 years old when her kidneys failed her. She was a funny, loving cat. I still see her out of the corner of my eye in the kitchen, sometimes. She has been gone for about nine years now.
You've probably all been wondering what the heck I've been doing lately. No? Well, I'll tell ya anyway, ha!
We went off to the desert for ten days between the Friday before Christmas, and got back New Years Day. Doesn't matter that the gold was less than plentiful, we had a blast anyway. It was so peaceful and quiet, and the weather was just perfect.
Now, the reason I'm putting this here (a trip report thread will be forthcoming soon), is because MsAli mentioned foxes. Were you talking the red or brown ones, or something a little different? We had a visitor to our desert camp just about every night. The first morning after we arrived, we found this calling card on our doorstep:
She left us a little something more nights than not.
This is a kit fox. We affectionately called her "Foxy." She was very much into scenting, marking her territory. Never would have given that much thought. She visited sometimes as early as 5:30pm, sometimes 8pm or later. (We went to bed at eight, us young kids.) Sometimes stayed with us for half an hour, sometimes a couple hours. We were happy to have her visit. (And I don't want to hear from a certain someone that giving her a few crackers will kill her. She got small pieces of ham as well. Just a little...)
She was pretty fearless, coming pretty close to us. But she did remain aloof.
Deer in the headlights! (Do you know that feeling, Tommy ?) These were flash photos, so she was probably blinded/stunned for a few seconds. But the flash never scared her off.
She would sometimes walk away, turn her back to us and either sit, or lie down. She was about the size of a medium housecat.
Hope you liked the pics. Can't understand how we could only be gone ten days, and I've got about a month's worth of laundry to do!
Back when I can be.... Jean

Thank you for sharing that Jean . Your beautiful kitty and the fox. What a cool little visitor. Pretty brave and it makes me wonder if she isn't accustomed to people camping out there and now knows its a good spot to get treats. I just hope someone doesn't decide to hurt her. There was an article in National Geographic a few years about domesticating foxes www.bbc.com/earth/story/20160912-a-soviet-scientist-created-the-only-tame-foxes-in-the-world and that got me interested in owning one. Maybe one day.....

Glad you had a good time, rockpickerforever Jean. Love the pics of the little fox. How did you get the camera to focus in the dark? Your rig fire a pre flash strobe? Surprised that didn't scare the critter away. Like MsAli said, I don't think this was it's first rodeo. Wendy was a good looking cat. I had a very similar looking MC mix named Tuck. Big and gentle. Ash might get a playmate when we lose either a guinea pig, hermit crabs, or both. You say Ragdoll=Siamese, but they are two distinct breeds. Other than coloring, Ragdolls more resemble Burmese or Himalayan in shape and coat. They have some similar characteristics to Siamese, but some differing as well. Everyone I've talked to claims the Ragdoll is more social and has less 'catitude'. We'll find out, I guess. Glad you made it back safe. Happy New Year.

If my memory from studying breeds of cats is correct they were actually developed by an American breeder who had a persian/Himalayan domestic female who bred with a male Burmese type domestic. She then went on to develop the breed. They became "limp" when picked up, hence the name rag doll. No relation to a Siamese at all other than they have similar coloring and markings. They are very docile and yes less attitude than Siamese, if you please....

We didn’t realize that two Maine Coons lived behind us until we replaced our back fence. The owner told us that she had the two, and our little 5 pound Burmese cat chased them into their own house. Still haven’t seen them.
At 5lbs, Annabelle is fearless and fast.
