This is the first time I've tried to do any silversmithing since last summer when I took a class at William Holland. I have my room all set up, clean and organized, so it was time to see if I could remember what I was taught. I bought this cab of K2 on eBay. I was pleased enough with how it looked that I didn't try to rework it. Turned out a little wonky on the edges partially because I tried a bezel that was partially open and partially because the cab was not uniform along the girdle, which I didn't notice until beyond the point of stopping without scraping everything. And a lot because I was never taught how to do these. But overall I'm pleased enough to not scrap it. I even wore it to work today.

I was a little quicker with my second project. Our teacher showed us how to make roses with scalloped bezel wire. I took notes but didn't make any in class. They came out pretty well. Did notice that I didn't keep track of the pattern on my leaves and put 3 out of 4 on upsidedown. I think I want a darker patina on the leaves so I'll put them back in LOS tomorrow.

Nice work like the k2 but the earing's are very attractive for some reason.

Nice work like the k2 but the earing's are very attractive for some reason. Thank you! Ever since my teacher showed us the roses I had this exact idea in my head. I'm glad I finally got to put it all together in a finished piece.

Beautiful pieces! Love the roses. Nice work! Thank you! The roses are deceptively easy to do. I'll take pictures of the process the next time I make some.

Great job!! A craft I would love to learn It's a lot of fun, but a little nerve racking to use the torch. But as long as I stay a little nervous and don't take it for granted, I'll be less likely to burn down the house!

The ear rings are wonderful! Never tell us the mistakes, we will just think it is artistic license. I would love to see a tutorial on the roses. Vic

I haven't used a torch in years- dad wouldn't let me for some reason-boys had all the fun Would love to see a video of the process

Fabulous job on both projects! Really like the earrings. Would like to see a tutorial on how you did those, too.

I looked for some nice K-2 when I was out this spring and didn't see anything with a tight pattern. The pendant and earring are great. I hate to make earrings but I might try to do a knock off of yours if you don't mind. I might just try and make the roses today just to see if I figured it out looking at your pic.

I like! I think the pendant came out really nice. The earrings, though, those are really cool. I'd wear em in a heartbeat.
I pulled a K2 out of my box yesterday and wrapped it. Is it just me or does it seem to be harder to get the better stuff with the lighter background?

I'm still learning and will be asking for help as I use my torch more and more I'm sure. Roses - are easy peasy. Start with scalloped bezel wire. These were made with a length of 13 scallops. Use snips to cut a little deeper into the space between each scallop. I went about half way down. Then using round nose pliers, begin rolling up the wire into a coil. Once its coiled, I used a small knife to begin to separate out each scallop and then grab it with the round nose pliers and roll outwards and down. Just work your way around. Please post your pieces!

Is it just me or does it seem to be harder to get the better stuff with the lighter background? I got lucky with the K2. Never bought it before. Bought 3 cabs off eBay from one of the super cheap overseas sellers. Actually got the ones in the picture instead of a bait and switch. Gave one to my best friend and have an oval still to set. Saying you'd wear my earrings is so cool. I am such a fan of your work! It's like a celebrity endorsing your product. I am planning on making some more of these earrings for my hospital's craft show. I would appreciate advice on how to price these. I've never tried to sell things before. Ear-wires, roses and leaves are fine silver. Sterling for the back plate and stem. I figure I easily have less than $8 in silver in the pair. Took me about 2 hours, but that was a first try. Should be able to make several pairs in less time now that I've done it once.

Thank you for the kind words. For pricing, I would look in etsy for similar and consider these points. Charge spot for silver plus extra. Charge a good hourly rate for yourself. Keep in mind the aesthetics. Something that has more eye appeal or any appeal above the ordinary is always worth more. Also, if this is for charity, the price can be higher. People expect to give more for charity pieces. Don't under sell your work. No one wants to pay too little. It makes the piece seem of little worth. I just did a quick search on etsy. Nothing like yours, but judging from the prices I saw, I think you could charge 45-55.00 at a min. For charity- more. How does that sound to you? I always figure 15 an hour to start depending on difficulty or skill required.
