Here is my first completed tumble. This is all collected by my daughters from Grandpa's creek so it has some sentimental value as well! I am trying to get my girls involved in the hobby and they so far are loving it!
EDIT - this is Missouri Chert - named after Grandpa's creek. Just for fun, not for real of course =)
A huge shout out to anyone who has helped me get back in the swing of things (I'm sure I won't name everyone here - thank you): Garage Rocker, jamesp, Tommy, hookedonrocks, aDave, alikat, hank and many others. Thanks much for the advice - I look forward to a few new posts soon with new batches!
Some quick notes about this batch: Prep wise, some pieces were rough and tumbled and a few others I cut with a 7'' tile saw and shaped a bit. I pulled it a bit early because my girls bugged me night after night. Also, I have a very MIXED batch of material. I was told most of it was chert, although I clearly have some petrified wood, fossil and coral as well. I did use a small handful of filler from TRS so yes - the tiger's eye and anything "non-Missouri creek" probably isn't from there =) The chert was starting to get a lot of fractures so I'll have to make some adjustments next time. The photos show this as well.
I did feel like I got a great shine and am very happy with these as are my girls =) Photography wise I have no clue what I am doing but I have some decent gear so I'll get better. I don't ever expect to be Garage Rocker level, hah!
I hope you enjoy them! Link to album first (more pics than in the thread here).
