My grandaughter's best friend of 6 years was robbed on Sat. The scary thing is- they were in the house when she went to check on the house and leave her some fresh flowers. She didn't know it at the time. Her friend's bedroom door was locked from the inside when she was there, but when her friend came home, it was unlocked. Praise to God that she wasn't hurt. Anyway, her friend is not well off and can't afford to replace a few necessities, like another computer for school. She is a super bright kid with all AP and advanced classes and curriculum. The friend thinks they were targeted because she was excited about her brother graduating from the Marines bootcamp and posted on FB & instagram that they would be going out of town to see it. The robbery ruined the homecoming for this young service member. How messed up is that? If you feel so inclined, will you consider 1.00 or more to her gofundme? I know it will be put to good use. www.gofundme.com/marine039s-family-robbed-in-va-beachI'm sorry to anyone that this may seem inappropriate to. I'm just trying to help get the word out.

What a tragedy for such bright young kids.
I guess people shouldn't post when and where they'll be going on social media, to avoid dangers such as these.
Good luck with that GoFundMe.

Young or old, NOBODY, should post personal info on the internet PERIOD. I personally know people that have their complete personal history on their computer, S.S.#, driver Lic. #, Bank $'s ect. If you feel someone needs to know your personal info, use the DAMN phone ! There are some real nasty people out there that make a darn good living taking advantage of this type of freely given info !
My $.02 ,
STOP DOING IT !

In her defense, she is a kid.

This is so awful to hear. So sorry for that kid and her family. I never post anything on the net that is detailed or even too personal. Too many asswipes out there waiting to prey on anyone who slips up.

Glad you enjoyed that, mohs. It's one of my favorite less vulgar words to use when I really want to call them something else.

I'm not able to donate for reasons I can't go entirely into but mostly because GFM does not allow Paypal - BUT I did share it on Facebook so hopefully my vast database of friends ( lol ) will see it and jump in and help.

Very sad. I have some first hand experience with a similar story. My daughter's roomie posted on Facebook that she was excited about her new day job. She had just started all evening classes for college. The next day someone broke in through roomies bedroom window during the day. Person was surprised to find my daughter in house. Daughters cat was bothering the intruder, so he kicked the cat into the wall. Then attacked my daughter. Cat ended up passing on. My daughter was older and no longer in college. Had just been promoted at work.
This happened long ago, in a relatively safe area. Made the local news. Attacker was found and prosecuted. My daughter was not physically injured, but emotionally. Situation forced her to move half way across the country. She never was able to retrieve some items of hers taken for evidence, including her baby blanket.
I hope all involved are not traumatized and learn to not put too much to Facebook and other social media. Also agree not to have personal info stored on a computer. One never knows when a computer will be stolen or hacked into these days.
