This prototype is done. Waiting for others to dry. The cord is natural hemp. I roughed the bottom of cab. The bottom pouch was started with a square type arrangement. If anyone remembers going to camp in the 1970’s and earlier you will understand using “Gimp”. At least that is what my camp called it. Was basically plastic or leather flat cords about 1/8” wide and 1/32” thick. To start a square or round woven piece, one needed to weave the gimp to produce a woven, square piece. From there, I took the 4 ends of the cord and did a series of square knots to make the bottom “basket”, alternating which cords were used. Glue was applied to the cab. Basket was attached. Let dry for 2 hours. Then did alternating square knots up the length of the cab. The bail was formed by doing a half hitch knot. Made it very tight. The applied my go to for cord, Sally Hanson Hard as Nails fingernail polish which contains fibers. This works great to hold cords in place. Waited 2 hours for that to dry. Cut ends of cord. Applied more nail polish and smoothed out. I still need to remove excess glue from this one. Since this is a prototype, I am very pleased with results. Know what to do to make future ones look more professional. The other 2 I will be posting are totally different styles, but still using hemp cord. jamesp and others, please let me know what you think. front back

I think the execution is great, but I don't like how much it covers the glass. Don't listen to me, though- I'm biased against hemp jewelry. After I left the 70's, I never looked back. LOL!

Wait til you see the other 2. One has minimal coverage. The other is just a hemp wrapped bail. These are just prototypes and I appreciate the feedback. I plan on refining based on feedback. After all, the hemp is easy to remove as is the glue.

Here are the other two in progress. Tenants having a cow run through fence and get out hampered my time to finish these today. Will be busy all weekend.

I hate cows Stupid animals to get back in
(side note, I do want a Scottish Highland)
I like the one with just the bail better, but I think if you were to drill a hole and then run the hemp through it, then macrame the "chain" it would let the pendant be more visible

Image in mind of ladies corralling cows. Sometime study the flipping of cows with a horse and bull whip in low limb Florida scrub country. To avoid getting 'clothes lined' by limbs. Finer cord for the containment wrap fernwood ? Sewing thread comes in colors and some is thicker and way strong for reinforcing seams... Some so strong it will cut your hand if you try to break it by pulling on it. I'm going to look at thread at sewing department. You are nailing the organic look, I like. Not sure what the 'strength' units are - 444 CN = one pound, so 2100 CN = about 5 pounds. Consider embroidery thread too. thread color chart(one of many) colored nylon sewing thread - strength(breaking tenacity lol) in kilograms(1 kilo = 2.2 pounds) according to drug smugglers diameter has to be in millimeters

Based on input, going to try something after this weekend. I have some very strong, vintage sewing thread and lots of crochet hooks. Have a tatting bobbin, but tatting is beyond me.

I agree with the first one covering the glass too much. I do like the organic look of them, though. I wonder if very, very thin leather cord is available? Maybe do a search for macrame supplies?
Cool stuff. Looking forward to seeing what the thread ones will look like.

I too was curious how thin leather cord is made. Smallest I could find is 1mm.
