Hey Duke, nice batch of rocks. Are you calling all of those “lakers”? Usually, the term “laker” refers to Lake Superior agates. I see a couple possible Lakers in your batch, but most look like other rocks that may have come from a Great Lake. I see granite, quartz, a pudding stone, and various other rocks. Either way, they turned out nice and shiny.

Well Thanks Rob Jugglerguy I guess being a Southern Michigan Hillbilly I guess I got some more learnin to do. Well I guess when I say LAKERS I meant coming out of the lake like these did all in Lake Michigan. I was shocked how stubborn these were even in the 1000G-ao Polish Stage. It took the 4000G-ao to bring it out. What you see here is 6-8 Lbs of Rock I have 8 Tumblers rolling now with 113 lbs of all kinds of Rock and media in them in various Stages Roll Baby Roll. Thanks ~Duke

Great start TheRock . 1000 is usually considered a pre-polish and not a polish. That's probably why you struggled with it a bit. Not sure how 4000 would be classified, but you can still get much finer stuff. Most polish is around 14,000 (1 micron). I'd be looking in that range if you can for an AO polish. Rockshed's polish is 1.5 microns, but it is still more than adequate.

I ordered the 1000 Grit ao pre Polish and The 4000 Grit ao Polish from Shawn at TRS and according to him it was 4000 Grit that he sold me. I would like to get some 14,000 G 1 micron stuff but I don't see it listed on any sites? If anyone has a source please post it here. Thanks ~Duke

I found these Guys www.johnsonbrotherslapidary.com/Polishing_Powders.html They have Sapphire AO Powder .3 micron for $5.00 a pound so I am trying 5 lbs of this powder so will let you know how it works. They also have Pro Polish .5 micron at $14.50 a pound I think it was I thought that was a bit much for my purpose. ~Duke

Thanks ~Duke The AO polish on the Rock Shed site is not labeled by size, if I recall correctly. So, some time ago, I emailed Shawn and asked him about it. He told me their polish is 1.5 micron, which according to a chart I found, equates to 13,000. You may just want to confirm with him what you're getting when you simply order "AO polish." If you're actually getting his 1.5 stuff, I wouldn't necessarily worry about trying to get 1 micron, as it will probably be a bit more expensive than what Shawn sells.

Nice tumbles, for sure.... also in my honest opinion, Shawn from the rock shed is the best around for supplies! www.therockshed.com

I just called Shawn and left a message and will be sending him an E-Mail if it is the polish I got from him it is most likely the 1.5 micron 13,000. Like I said yesterday I purchased 5 lbs of .3 Micron which according to this chart should be around 30,000 or so. I think I will now have 7 steps to my recipe. Might as well I figure I am that much invested what's a couple more days. ~Duke

Great batch. You got an excellent shine especially with the various hardnesses you rolled at the same time.

Thanks fantastic5 I was peeeing in the Wind for Awhile that's for sure. I use Borax now to maintain grit suspension to coat the rocks much better with Grit It works better than the Kitty Litter. I have seen the light and feel more confident in what I am doing daily and understand the process of tumbling so it lets me understand more advance subjects of what everyone is talking about. Learning is definitely a process. ~Duke

I love the Granite's too I just got some .3 micron polish and am looking fwd to see how that polishes in the final stage these that are shown were polished with 1.5 micron ~Duke
