What is the fourth one called?
They are all gorgeous, but that last one with the cubic designs blows my mind!

Very nice! The picture wood - it's Saddle Mountain yes? Welcome back! I'm not sure what it is. I believe it came from Jean rockpickerforever. I love it! I have one more great cab to come from it.

Very nice! The picture wood - it's Saddle Mountain yes? Welcome back! I'm not sure what it is. I believe it came from Jean rockpickerforever . I love it! I have one more great cab to come from it. Hey, Tela, nice cabs!
I think I did send that to you, when you needed material for a custom order. That turned out really cool!
Where it came from - We had gone to a couple of "pre-estate sales" in Pacific Beach, and then the real estate sale (after the man died). He and his daughter (older than me) picked up material all over the SW US. After he passed, and his daughter held his final estate sale, she decided to liquidate her collection as well. She was tired of selling rocks! (Maybe why she gave them away?) She contacted the rock club I belonged to at the time, and held a free rock sale at her house in Clairemont (San Diego). We only made one trip, but we were pretty well loaded up.
As for where it originally came from - one year that we went to Quartzsite, there was a guy selling opalized pet wood at the Pow Wow that looked exactly the same. He said he collected his in Nevada, and told me where. The town of "Gabbs" sticks in my mind. But I could be wrong. I'll see if I can find my notes, pretty sure I wrote it down.
I have only made one cab from it, the piece I made into a size 10-1/2 gold-filled Pharaoh's head ring:
It polished pretty good, but maybe too soft for a ring. It seems to have some tiny scratches on it after I've worn it a bit.
This was the thread for the free rock sale: Brought MORE stuff home I am just posting the thread so you can drool all over the rocks again, lol. And for the new RTHlings, too. I thought I had photos of the buckets of opalized P-wood in the thread, but guess not. Will have to upload.
Okay, done. Here's some of the rough:
The main stash now.
I really like the stick agate. But they are all swell.
ETA - Yes, the opalized wood the guy was selling at Q, and by extension, what I have, was found near Gabbs, Nevada.

Yup, Jean, rockpickerforever, the last piece looks just about perfect for mine. I love opalized anything, but the wood is especially sweet! Took a glassy polish, too. I've got more to play with. There were some interesting pieces. It was fairly soft. Worked up much faster than I thought it would.
