Well, at least all from American locations. A little flower garden from the Walker Ranch in Texas. Man, I miss that place already... Bouquet from the Singleton Ranch. Another Texas ranch put out to pasture...literally. Roadside collecting in Texas can yield a little of everything...sometimes in one rock. From the SICAT location in the Cady Mountains in California. Another Cady, from the Ribbon Moss hill And, from Burro Creek in the AZ, a bit of brecciated purple agate. All but the Burro Creek are self collected. The Burro is from Pat McMahon. Thanks for looking. Hope you enjoyed the view.

Beautiful! I like the last 3 the best, especially the ribbon moss hill. Based on your comment, I assume that the Walker and Singleton Ranches are closed for collecting (?).

The Singleton and Walker were both sold and neither of the new owners are friendly to rockhounds. From looking at comments on the Stillwell website, it has been sold as well but is continuing to allow rockhounds access, at least for now. Apparently, those that lease the "pastureland" from the ranches to run cattle are very set against rockhounds. I think too many rockhounds in the past abused the privilege of access to someone else's land. Created a dislike by chewing up the grass and spooking cattle with ATVs and digging holes without filling them, so that, no matter how respectful and careful current rockhounds are, the deed is done. ,

socalagatehound - Thanks for that feast of plumage. with a side of dendrites & purple! I especially like the Bob Marley moss. You know, the one with green, red & yellow. It reminds me of the color gradient often shown behind pictures of Bob Marley. I've been wanting to go to Texas & collect at the Singleton Ranch after seeing some photos here on RTH. Was that your post? It was probably a year ago. I'm bummed to hear of its closing. It seemed the best choice for this plumehead. What's your recommendation now for West Texas plume agates? Lynn

zarguy I think this is the thread you may be referring to, posted by Txrockhunter; forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/78309/singleton-ranch-marfa-txI spent 3 days on the Singleton Ranch in March 2017, two days with Txrockhunter. It was just about the best collecting I had ever done in my life. Was planning on going back but it was not to be. No options at this time. Waiting to see what Teri Smith has on her Fall schedule(if she is doing trips). There are other Ranches south of Marfa that have Bouquet, just have to hope that one becomes available. Henry

Was that your post? It was probably a year ago. I'm bummed to hear of its closing. It seemed the best choice for this plumehead. What's your recommendation now for West Texas plume agates? Lynn Well, There's still a few places to collect West Texas plume, although the French Hills type is very unique and it's hard to find if you can't get on one of those ranches south of Marfa. The French Hills on those ranches are the source of that particular variety. Occasionally one will appear in the gravels at the Stillwell Ranch or roadside south towards Laredo. The Walker/Woodward (Bird Hills) types can be found in the Uvalde gravels roadside all the way south past Laredo and seem more prevalent than the French Hills type. The South Larremore Ranch that Teri leads trips to has produced fine red and black plume nodules and peanut agate that probably originated in the Bird Hills. If you don't have the time to walk miles and miles of road in Webb County, your best bet is to go with Teri to the South Larremore, and you can sneak in a visit to Needle Peak at the same time. You can see some of my West Texas finds on my Flickr page: www.flickr.com/photos/152452906@N08/albums/72157685940461344There are more cabs and slabs than that, but I just haven't gotten the time to get them all posted there. I might see some of you at Teri's fall trips, but I'm trying to squeeze in a Laredo trip this winter, too. And they moved up the start date of the High School soccer season (I coach) this year to November 3, so from there that 4 months is booked (mostly)

Ribbon Moss Hill, now that cab is stunning, would love to have a slab of that material to work with. Unreal, very nice!

As I understand it, the old timers hauled a lot of that type of moss off the hill, but now you need to crawl around and scrape the ground to find bits and pieces big enough and solid enough to cab. I did find one larger piece in a narrow wash below the face of the hill, but everything else has been one or two cab scraps. And, I am sworn to secrecy by the rockhound that showed me where it is. I would never have found it on my own. Almost no float to speak of.
