I have an Insaria Grinder and was thinking of using Diamond Lap Discs. This would require using an Aluminum Backing Plate I would prefer using hook and loop and these 6" Diamond Discs will get wet to preserve the diamonds. Has anyone used this type of Discs and backing plate? What is a trusted brand that would hold up well and not come apart is my use?

The problem with hook and loop for intarsia is you need very flat and very rigid for intarsia, and you won't get that with anything but a psa backing. All my discs are plated diamond steel on their own aluminum backing plates. For intarsia glue joints I only use 180 grit, if I choose to do flats at multiple grits I do it on my horizontal lap (faceting machine). The diamond laps I got from Mohan years ago still serve me well, but I don't do production and don't recommend his stuff for hard use. If high quality is important crystallite is good, or anything that faceters use. The club shop uses Ameritool topper discs and they hold up as well, they are a film like the 3M diamond film and also use PSA on a dedicated backing plate.
