What's everyone's favorite cabbing material that is fairly affordable (relative term I know ) and takes a high polish? Look forward to your responses

Mookaite takes a great polish as do flint and chert.

I vote for Montana. Great polish, love the patterns, fairly inexpensive. Obsidian is dirt cheap, easy to work, great polish. Vic

Petrified wood would probably be the cheapest material that takes a good polish. Porcelain jasper (polka dot, Willow Creek, Blue Mt.,Morrisonite, etc)takes the best polish, in my opinion, but it is expensive for nicely patterned material.

Affordable is a term that means different things in different venues. Club sponsored rock shows usually have cheaper material than commercial sponsored shows or state fairs. The "local" stuff is generally cheaper than material that has to be shipped a long way. Montana agate is around $2/lb around SoCal but could be more expensive in the East Coast. Nameless agates, jaspers and pet wood are probably the cheapest all around material.

Some of my favorite cabs have come from other peoples' trim.

Dons list is great. Brazilians work up real fine. I'd add Prairie agate, petrified coral, and t-egg centers too but many local agates and jaspers take an awesome polish with ease too....Mel

Swali (some people also call it Swazi) Agate, and Botswana agate are both spectacular.
