No need for pictures, mine is just a wide mouthed salsa jar filled with coarse sand, It's actually tiny rice grain sized Garnets that have been used as tumbler filler but granite sand would do.

I don't use top sticks (except for tiny cabs), but you could just jab the sticks into a flat styrofoam piece. I did that for my needle files. Works well. Cheap : )

I use a plastic bullet holder marked Remington. It has 5 rows of 10 holes. Each is about 3/8" diameter. I scrounged it somewhere, so no idea what bullets it came with. Lynn

I use a 3" thick piece of styrofoam with holes drilled 3" apart.

I make them from scrap pieces of silicone rubber architectural compression seals held together with bits of uncured rubber and baked in an oven. The gray piece is a similar extrusion to show what it starts out as. Since it's all stuff that would otherwise go in the garbage as off size the boss is ok with me making them.

Back when I started cabbing I was using a flat lap that required changing plates between each stage. I would always try to do cabs in large groups to avoid changing the plates as often so I made a quick holder for the dopped rocks. I was never a fan of trying to work on too many rocks at a time so as soon as I got the genie the dop holder was retired. I prefer to work on just a couple cabs at a time and for the most part they are done in one sitting now. Here is the one I built. Pretty simple. The top board and middle board get drilled at the same time so the holes line up. The bottom board just keeps them from falling through. Chuck

I’m getting ready to paint a room in the house. This idea came to me at Walmart. $6 Some of the really big ones don’t fit but it’s easy enough to snip or bend the metal and make bigger holes. Not a perfect idea but at least I can see what I have now.

I'm almost embarrassed to post this haha. It was shortly after taking this picture that I truly realized how much time and energy I was wasting in the dopping process. It had literally become an obsession within the obsession if that makes sense. Actually finishing cabs became a pain and probably 50% of these cabs would get pulled off because after weeks/months of being dopped I would realized that I didn't like them enough to finish them. Now (without dopping) I choose one stone and either work on it all the way through completion or until it breaks . It's basically just a sheet of plywood with holes drilled in it on top of a custom drawer cabinet that my son built.

Oh that’s beautiful. It looks like you have a favorite size stick. Mine are all random. I’m not set up for any type of woodworking or I’d be doing something similar to the wood ones I’ve seen here. I bent the frame just a wee bit so it fit into the plastic tray snugly. It is way better now. Plus I like that it’s plastic so I can wash it out when it’s nasty.

This is great idea - I like the easy clean plastic tub idea, nice job! Right now I use a combination of styrofoam blocks and delivery food containers for those that are dopped but have been planning on trying to 3D print one. I'll post that if I ever get it done, but I may have to make one of these in the meantime!

I'm with bobby1 . These days I generally cut several stones in a batch and finish them all before going on to others. I only dop when I need oxide or diamond compound polishing (helps to generate enough pressure) and for cutting stones with steep girdles or stones too small to hand-hold. Otherwise it's all by hand. I avoid dopping whenever possible -- it's a pain and time-consuming.
