Had a massive failure of the knurled nut for one of my 3 lb barrels. The threads on the bolt are fine. Is it possible to use a wing nut instead of this?
Know the new nuts are inexpensive, but do not want to only order a nut.
Thanks.

Big box hardware stores (Lowes, Ace, etc.) might have an appropriate knurled nut.

Thanks. Will be unable to get to one of those until Thursday. Just do not want to run tumbler with only one barrel until then. Live in a rural area. Sub 0 temps here now and potential for heavy snow soon. Need to stay home today when not working to keep fireplace going for heat.

As long as the wing nut is short enough that it can't contact the frame of the tumbler as the barrel turns, you should be fine. Just be careful, you can probably get more torque on a wing nut than you can on the standard knurled nut.

Oh yes. This barrel would be placed on the opposite end of where the 1 lb is now. A duel 3 lb tumbler, but have a 1 pounder on that now, in addition to a 3 pounder. The 1 pounder would be where the end of the unit is, allowing the 3 pounder to not have the wing nut next to the frame. The surface is level, but the barrels move some when running the 1 lb. barrel.

Have the right sized lock nut and some hex nuts. You know me all to well. I have a 40 compartment unit with lots of hardware, lol. Opposed to the wing nut, would iou recommend a hex nut or a lock hex nut? Have about 12 locking hex nuts. Only 3 regular hex nuts.

Yep...kinda' figured you'd have a stash of hex nuts lying around. <laughing> I'd use regular nuts rather than lock nuts. Less chance of overtightening and easier to get on and off with just my fingers.

If you use a lock nut use a nylock, don't use the kind that is crimped. I hate lock nuts.
