A (feeble) attempt to add some interest to my usual boring rocks. I'm still learning what to tumble and what not to tumble, the average shine in this batch is down a bit from previous batches...I'm guessing because of a few (the green ones and a couple others) that "polluted" the polish stage as well as a few aquarium pea gravel media that were broken...I'll have to check the media more closely in future. This is my final rotary batch (for now)...I've got a batch ready to go in my UV10 vibe which I just bought, just waiting for an extra bowl on back order to show up and then the vibe learning curve starts.

There ya go - a demi-parure surrounding a happy lady in the center! Or maybe that is a full parure and a bracelet around the happy face?

Nice batch, did you collect those yourself? Thanks and yes all local finds mostly from the local river... I love rock hounding but it's getting harder to find different and interesting stuff never mind the foot of snow that's here now...the silver lining about winter is that it restores the rock hounding passion! I bought some some tiger eye and mookaite that is taking forever to rough tumble in my 3 lb barrels. I have a 12 lb barrel that rough tumbles the stuff in the photo but I may move the tiger eye and mookaite in there as well to speed things up.

Had to look up parure to see what it meant... "A parure is a set of various items of matching jewelry, which rose to popularity in 17th-century Europe." Always interesting to see what others see in a photo. I saw 2 rocks in this batch that looked like eyes and the rest came from that. I think the face looks like a clown . The circle around the face was an easy way to get the whole batch in the photo....

I do think that they'd make a nice necklace, bracelet and earrings worn together, just the way you have them laid out. And these days, with all the weird piercings, somebody'd probably have holes for lips, nose, eyebrow and even eyelid jewels.

Those are looking good Glen! Creative display too! I think you will really like your UV-10 for the fine grits & polish. I got a UV-10 last year and am really pleased with it. At first I only used it for the final polish, then I took Bikerrandy advice in the tutorial here and got the second bowl. Now I just use the rotary for phase 1, and I've probably cut my time, quantity of grits and polish by one-half to one-third.

I like the cream colored ones, like 9-O'clock. I find a lot of dark red, like the ones at 6-O'clock, and the eyebrow. What I don't see a lot of is the olive greenish rock that sits at 7:30 or so. Can I ask what kind of rock that might be?

Like you I'm going to use Bikerrandy's tutorial as it sounds like a lot of people have success with it. My extra barrel on back order is taking forever and I'm getting impatient so I'm going to start my first batch in the UV10 in the next couple days. I didn't do stage 2 (220) when I was all rotary as I didn't see it made any difference so I'm going to skip stage 2 with the UV10 and do the pre-polish and polish stages with the single bowl I have. We'll see how that works out, if nothing else I'll learn from it...

Can I ask what kind of rock that might be? Not sure what it is Bill...I like green rocks but there's not a whole lot of green anything around here so I pick up whatever I find to see if they'll shine up but so far no luck. They either undercut like the triangle one at 7 O-clock and/or only take a dullish/micropitted shine like the other green ones in the photo. Having said that I got a couple interesting green ones rough tumbling right now so maybe they'll shine up...I'm hoping !
