If you have seen an of my posts, then you know that lately I have been doing a lot of exhausting prospecting, and I really have had very poor material to show for it. In many cases actually, nothing at all to show for it.
So, I needed a fun day. A new location, like renowned L@vic, where I can just roll right up and find stuff close to the car without having to go offroad or expend much effort at all. And I found it.
Just about 2 hours door to door, put me at a location found about half way between Baker and Barstow CA, and less than a mile off of Highway 15.
Why so ghetto?
Well, just as the aforementioned famous Jasper locale I mentioned is a lot like Disneyland, where your eyes literally bug out of your head from excitement the minute you step out of the truck and see the great material lying all over the place, this place is more like the circus or carnival that comes to town once in a while. It can be a lot of fun if you have the right attitude!
Also, much like L@vic, you will find material that looks like this:
But the interesting part is that this is not just a Jasper location!
It is also a Agate hotbed, and the Chalcedony (fairly nuggy and vuggy by the way) is all over the place too. Plus, the Jasper comes in different colors. I would describe the most common as a grey, which is somewhat translucent, infused with random mottling of color (just about any color).
Some of these will probably tumble nicely and be interesting to look at I think.
I have another tray which is a better example of this grey mottled look, but didn't clean them in time for a sunlight shot. I'll add it later.
[Edit] This is what "mottled" looks like to me:
And another
I'm not exactly sure how to describe it. Even though, yes, the rocks are dark grey, I like some of the other colors that are mottled in to them. They might come out when tumbled.
Unfortunately, I only budgeted to spent 3-4 hours there. I walked and prospected a lot, But I found more places where NOT to collect, than the good spots today.
I believe there is a lot more to this location that I was able to see today. While I focused on mostly hills South of I-15 today, there is supposed to be far better Agates North. And other places to hunt too!
But today I took advantage of the great weather, and fun was had. Send PM for detailed map if interested.
