Speed settings on the Foredom TX, using the table top EMX-1 speed controller do not appear linear relating to the percentage of turn on the control knob. The TX (load free) speed is rated 500-15,000 RPM. Foredom rates the max usage speed of the Hammer hand-piece (H-15) at 5000 RPM, and the chisel hand-piece (H-50) at 8000 RPM. There is the risk of heat damage to those hand-pieces if the max speeds are exceeded for long periods. Note: Foredom recently added a speed limiter switch in their EMXF-1 speed control unit that allows a Hi (max 15,000 RPM) or Lo (max 10,000 RPM) setting... That is new... but it doesn't help the older EMX-1 users... Is there a chart or rule-of-thumb that can decipher what speeds the older EMX-1 front panel graduated plate shows? www.foredom.net/product/c-emx-1-table-top-control-115-volt/

Update 3/25/19... Called Foredom Customer Support:
No charts available No real "rule-of-thumb" either... just put the control knob half way to get close to half speed (for TX that is 7,500 RPM).
Thinking about it... (not easy for me these days)... if the speed increase is not linear, the majority of increase will probably occur after the half way mark. A setting that is half way will probably be under 7,500 RPM. Maybe the Customer Support rep is more right than I gave him credit for.
Regardless... My new TX/EMX-1 is on the way. I do not do any heavy bezel pounding (I mostly wire wrap or drill holes and put pinch bales on the cab) so I won't be needing the H.15 hammer hand-piece... but I do have the H.50 power carving hand-piece on the way (wood carving is one of my Son's hobbies)... so I will put a note on the EMX-1's control plate indicating the max speed setting.
Foredom indicated that they would discuss an exchange, but this seems too small of an issue to bother with.
