I wanted to take a minute to thank all members of the RTH (Rock Tumbling Hobby) community.
I wasn't sure where to put this post, but I guess right here will do.
As an IT professional, I've been a member of online forums long before this thing called AOL; in the late 80's, when the word "internet" was not yet a thing. Like some of you, I have been a member of a large number of online clubs or interest groups in the many years since.
Over the last several weeks as a member of this hobby community I have received more support, instruction, advice and encouragement from this group of folks than of any other before it. And I find that really uncommon!
Routinely I see that there can be up to 90% more Guests on this forum than actual members. I would advise them to take the simple step to join as a Member. I, myself in doing so, personally feel like I have unexpectedly received a great deal more value than I ever could have from just being a lurker.
I have found that there is no question that is too simple or too dumb to ask here. I have asked more than my share of those. And many here have been quick to help and answer any way. This is not only due to the super moderators that RTH currently has on board, but every member here without a single exception has been just great.
I could mention more. But will just stop short and say that I don't know how I can really repay the favor; especially since I am new and don't have enough knowledge to actually advice anyone on anything yet.
Thank you!

NevadaBill, you are certainly correct in your observations. RTH is a group of very talented people from many disciplines who also enjoy the lapidary/jewelry/glass and wire arts. RTH members will definitely share methods when other members need help.

I think most people (myself included) show up here on RTH looking for help or information. After getting help with what they were looking for they get sucked into all the different threads in all the different discussion areas and many begin to expand their scope of work. It all comes full circle when the folks that came here looking for answers have learned enough to start helping the next batch of newbies. I showed up here when I was using a 1.5 pound plastic barrel toy tumbler with my kid. Since I showed up I have gotten all the help I needed for tumbling, cabbing, slabbing, wire wrapping and silversmithing. Probably the most selfless group of people anywhere on any forum.

Chuck I spent a lot of time reading posts, from the oldest to the current, in some of the different categories and you can see this evolution. It should be encouraging to all that many of the people here who are revered for their knowledge and skills were green as grass when they signed up here. It is also very interesting to see what prevailing wisdom has changed/remained over time. Tons of info to be had here. Came here to get a little knowledge about tumbling and now I'm looking at getting into ten other things.... Al

When I think about questions I asked when I first showed up, I'm embarrassed. Then when I think about it a little more, most people start out asking the most basic questions, so there's no need at all to be embarrassed.
