I facet and when I mix my own diamond compound, I add in a dry lubricant (graphite or moly) about 50/50 with the diamond.
I have recoated some test wheels for a Giene and I used West Systems 610 epoxy which has 8% elongation. I am finding them a little stiff. so I am looking to use some West Systems G Flex which has 30% elongation. This may be to much and if it is, I can mix the 610 and the G Flex to get one that I like.
BUT I am thinking of adding in some graphite to the mix and I was wondering if anyone else has this this approach?
The reason is that right now there is epoxy between all of the diamond, and you rub on the epoxy waiting for the next diamond to hit. The graphite would make that epoxy surface slicker, less heat, and it may help the feel of the wheels.
I did try 2 methods of applying the epoxy, one was to roll the wheel along a piece of tape. this left a little bit if a stucoed texture. When the epoxy was almost cured, I rerolled the surface and took down the high spots, making the surface kind of like a rippled flat lap.
The second one, I spun slowly and help the tape to the surface. It left a much smoother surface.
I am doing this for a Rock Club in Dallas. Most people like the stuccoed lap better. After 8 weeks of pretty hard use at the club the surface is evening out a little, but it is still the favorite wheel.
I also used 3000 diamond, and they like it better than the 1200 that we had there before.
