Hello everyone, I am new to rock tumbling, but definitely not new to rocks. I also like to go fossil hunting. The thing that has always kept me from getting into this before is being very unnerved about leaving it running while I am asleep or away from my house. I am simply paranoid about starting a house fire. With advances in solar power & batteries, I want to build a unit I can keep & run outside. If anyone has any info to share about building a solar powered tumbler, I would appreciate it. Meg64

Hi and welcome to the forum
I cant help with solar power builds but I can tell you I had those same concerns. I ran 2 tumblers and neither one of them ever got hot. I kept them in my apartment in the dining room where they had good air flow around them. The first month I checked religiously and even got up in the middle of the night. Not to say there is a not a risk, but theres a risk with leaving anything plugged in.

meg64 to RTH Forum. From ~Duke in SW/Michigan I have 38 Solar Panels and 13 Tumblers Vibe And Rotary running 24/7 I doubt if a tumbler or equipment could cause a fire when running normally. But if the power should go off and when coming back on the motors could stall and not start sitting there and overheat and could possibly cause a fire, at that point I have designed a circuit that I built that will keep the tumblers off until they can be started manually in order to make sure everything starts and all is safe and operating normally. Here are some pics and links. You can PM me On The Solar Panel Link you can see Pictures Of My System on the Page. questions, Thanks ~Duke MAKING YOUR TUMBLERS SAFEMY ENPHASE SOLAR PANELSMY SHOP BUILD
