As many know, I suffered some damage when the major storms moved through earlier this month. Insurance adjuster was here yesterday. After hearing so many horror stories from others, I was a little apprehensive about what he would decide. It was a very positive experience. Well, other than him and I trudging about 3/4 mile, through a wooded area filled with down trees and berry bushes during a downpour. There was a tree on the roof of a small cabin in my wooded area. The cabin only has ATV access now via my neighbors driveway/trails. We both had raincoats on, but the clouds opened up for about 5 minutes.
The adjuster has a remote office in the van. He can do reports on location and also print partial settlement checks. Never heard of that before. The report was 12 pages ling. Had drawings of all buildings on it with the specific location of damage marked.
In the end, he found more damage than I reported. Horse barn will be torn down and a new one built. Tree on horse fence will be removed and fence restored. Tree removed from cabin, roofing replaced, flashing replaced.
This was my first homeowners claim ever. It reaffirmed why I have had the same insurance company since 1982 for car and homeowners/rental.
After all work is completed, I am to submit the invoices. Due to my replacement cost for insurance, I will receive another check/direct deposit for any additional costs.
The adjusters report was very clear and concise.
A very positive experience.

It always help when your neighbors are all claiming storm damage. If it is just you from a storm they drag their feet but if it is the neighborhood they say oh it was a big storm everyone is affected and they are not trying to con me.

It only took over 2 weeks for an adjuster to visit me. Considering the worst storm since the 1990's, I am pleased with that response time.

Glad you had a good experience. Never forget that the adjusters work for them and not you. Typically, they are nice, until they are not. Also, they are very good at sniffing out a fraudulent claim.

Glad they're taking care of it!!
I dealt with a home damaged with flooding from a hurricane, I was more than satisfied with the way the claim was handled. Homeowners, FEMA and our flood insurance all took care of it. FYI, I had not called FEMA and was told to do so by a neighbor. I followed through and a FEMA adjuster came out, walked around, asked questions and two weeks later I got a check for almost $10,000.00 to cover items other insurances didn't cover!

Really glad for you! I know that was a load off your back.
My BIL and SIL had a very BAD experience with their adjuster. The guy came quickly after a bad storm for some minor damage to the house. He was uber nice and understanding- stroked them a check for more than they had expected. THEN they got a letter from their lender saying that if they didn't fix their garage door they would lose their loan and insurance. The adjuster had inspected MORE than just the storm damage. He inspected the whole house and reported to the lender! I mean, the garage door was old and could use some paint, but it wasn't that bad. They did end up replacing it, but they will never let an adjuster nose around their house again.

Glad that you posted that! My mortgage was paid off a long time ago, so no lender to worry about. But my homeowner's insurance another story. They sent someone out in November, and saw the bad condition of my roof. They sent me a letter telling me they would not pay for water damage, if we incurred any, since we failed to keep the roof in good condition. The last roofing job was done just before we bought the house in April, 1992. Yeah, it was due, but money doesn't grow on trees. (It comes from Dad's, lol. Thanks, Dad.) Was planning on calling them, telling them the roof has been replaced and to remove their restrictive stipulations, but my garage door is in terrible shape. Guess I'll fix that before contacting them. I have never put in a claim, not for damage, a dog bite (no chance of that happening now), or anything else. Yet they keep raising my premium every year. My insurance agent told me it is because they no longer want to do business in California. They will collect as much as possible, and price themselves out of business in this state. I have to stay with then until April, as they charge $50 to cancel mid year. I have given them so much money over the years, NO MAS!

rockjunquie I could not like your post. Sorry you had to go through that. rockpickerforever A friend of mine had a similar experience. Was told to get moss off his garage roof or his insurance for all buildings would be cancelled. He had not claimed any damage, an insurance company rep made a random stop at his place when he was gone. All I know is that I have an itemized list of what will be covered, which was more than I hoped for. Yes, it helped that many others in the area had claims for the same storm.
