Just saw on the news that a 5.7 hit near Salt Lake City about an hour ago.
Utah folks check in and let us know you're ok!

You'd notice a 5.7. Kind of unusual for Utah, I think.

The EZ CAB brag FB channel is talking about it. Moved the China and some rocks fell.

It's not too far from the supervolcano, so perhaps not common but maybe not unusual?

My son, who resides about 30mi south/west from the epicenter, told me this morning only one major hwy. had been shut down in the Salt Lake vicinity, and it was down prior to the quake due to a UPS triple long that had overturned trying to avoid an accident in front of the UPS tractor, caused by poor driver habits on rain soaked roads......Utah drivers are famous for driving over the speed limits like they are the only persons on the road.
He, being from SoCal most of his life, found it amusing.....he hauls petro fuels as a distribution carrier for a living.........what he thought was unusual about this quake (the last major in Utah was over 20yrs ago), was the number and frequency of aftershocks that measured over 2.5..........but since the epicenter was located at the most southern tip of a known (deep) fault line, near a town named Magna (clue), being surrounded by three very high and steep mtn. ranges, there was no place for the shock waves to dissipate deeply horizontally, so they surfaced quickly due to the unstable overlying soils in that region........prior to the region being land developed, it was mostly bogs and swamp land. The Great Salt Lake shores are only a few miles from the epicenter.........go figure.

You'd notice a 5.7. Kind of unusual for Utah, I think. Salt Lake City sits right smack on top of the Wasatch Fault -- a very dangerous earthquake zone. It's been very quiet for a long time but in the distant past there have been horrendous earthquakes in the region. When I lived there I always got a bad feeling when I drove up the hill on 13th East near the U. of Utah. The "hill" is an ancient slip fault that elevated the eastern section about 50 feet as I remember. I just read that this quake did some damage to the LDS Temple and dislodged the trumpet from the statue of the Angel Moroni on its top. I have a daughter there and am worried because I haven't been able to reach her by phone.
